Default Is a 48 to big for trails

I am going to get a new carb and do lots of trail riding, is a 48 to much? The shop that did my head work said it will handle a 48 easily, but how would it work in the trails?

Tell us more about your engine. What cams, what size valves? I assume the head is ported. What compression? Stock bore?

What kind of trails are you talking? Wide open fire roads or tight technical woods? If all you do is technical trail ride and don't open it up much I would think the 48hv is too much, the 46hv may not be the best either.

When I had my 46hv, it worked fine on the slow stuff, but it really shinned when you opened it up in the dunes.

I have a stock bore 14:1 piston, web 109 cams, ported head and intake, 1mm. over intake valves, rwr CDI box, stock exhaust with end cap, and a couple stickers.

Send a PM to thumper650, he just got his TM48 installed two days ago and went for a ride already. He's pretty much stock with a MSD Ignition and a pipe. He rides trails.

Just get the pull lightened up to save thumb fatigue and get it tuned properly and its no worse than any other aftermarket carb.
