2002 praire 650 bogging
#1
i am new to the forum and i just have one question, has anybody had any bogging or hesitation at high speeds? 2 days ago when you hit 45 mph you felt a major hesitation, so we changed out the belt and now the hesitation is at abt 52 mph. this is my sisters quad and me and my dad( who is a master mechanic so their is no point in taking it into the dealer and paying way too much) are trying to figure out what could be wrong. so like i said we changed out the belt up at the cabin (limited tools) so we left the modded 400 z at the cabin and brought the praire back to work on it.
so here is what we are doing tomorrow..... check and clean the carb, check the valve clearence. any other ideas or does anybody here want to e-mail me the service manual??? the pully is a little worn but it should only effect low acceleration due to where it is worn.
thanks for the help in advance. (i visit my car forums alot so i figured i would try this forum)

I'd start with the airfilter. If its clean & oiled properly, inspect your snorkel to ensure rubber flap is not covering snorkel or critters/debris is not blocking the snorkel. Ensure your fuel switch is all the way on, no clogs in your fuel line, and choke springs not weak or binding. High speed is main jet function.
Do a Highspeed plug chop and check your plugs after checking all of above & jet if necessary. Also, keep in mind that elevation makes a big difference in jetting and ensure you are jetted for the elevation you are riding.:cool

well i mis interpeted my problem last night, it really isn't a bog it is more like hitting the rev limiter at 45 mph. it always happens between 40-45 mph and is like a shutter, complete loss of power, like somthing electrical is turning on when it is not supposed to.
it does not feel like a fuel problem and once we changed the belt it got better, now it does it at almost 45 mph every time. any help appreciated....
thanks

Low gear on a prairie tops out near your posted speed. I'd check the Belt deflection for proper deflection and ensure the belt light reset toggle in CVT cover is tight/tight connection and ensure your prairie is in HI gear for sustained speeds past 30 MPH. Also reseat your CDI and fuses.
Happy trails.
