wolverine horsepower estimate after mods?
#1
I've done some research and my stock wolvie is around 18hp at the wheels. I've removed the stock baffle from the exhaust, inserted a torque stuffer, put a K&N filter in, and I am rejetting the carb to maximize the mods. The rejet kit claims a minimum of 15% hp increase, so that brings it up to 20.7hp. I'm guessing maybe another 2-3hp between the exhaust and K&N filter? So I'm estimating around 23hp.
How much horsepower would YOU estimate my quad to be at now?
My next question is would a higher octane gas increase my horsepower? From the searching I've done, it's a "try it and see". But I'm trying to be as fast as my friend, so I want to lay down a good hand when we race again!

After a pipe, filter, rejet and torque stuffer, you are at about 21hp. Thats just about as close as you can get. You have to remember though in some rpm ranges though, you may be 3-4hp above stock, although I dont the specific power curve with that setup I can only guess from prior experiences, it should only have about 3 more peak horsepower.

yeah i heard its around 15-16 stock and a warrior is 18-20 stock........................ with just a baffle out and TS and k&n filter jetted your probally sitting on 18 maybe less because the TS dosent help out top end nor dont it increase HP that much considering its a "TORQUE" stuffer and a stock exhaust w/ baffle out and k&n filter isnt gonna do much

I searched on "wolverine" and "horsepower" and everything said 18-19hp. It's really wierd to hear that 18hp isn't the accepted number, though. I couldn't find it last night, but I remember that the number was rear wheel as well.
Team alba has a kit with a pipe, torque stuffer, K&N, and a rejet for a warrior and they say 19% increase; or 3.42hp, and 22.5hp total. Oh well, I guess it's just really hard to get any power out of this little 350cc, though. My Wolvie responded well to the warn 424 and K&N so I was hoping to have the same SOTP feel with the exhaust and carb mods.
SpDdEmOn: What HP would a cam/piston/bigger carb put my little 350cc at? How much HP does your 446ci have?

Back to the original subject.......
I have some random info and thoughts on the subject, this was the reason for my earlier question.
I have a magazine article in which Mickey Dunlap says that the Wolverine is 15 hp stock. I also have this url of a dyno test of a stock 96 Wolv : http://www.geocities.com/gtthunder.geo/wolverine.jpg
Here is a url for a stock Warrior dyno test:http://www.geocities.com/gtthunder.geo/warrior.jpg
Both of those runs come from a pretty reputable shop.
To muddy the water a bit, I have a sheet that came with my White R4 saying that a stock 99 Warrior makes 20.3 hp.
Kodiak 450 dyno runs : http://www.highlifter.com/performanc...hp3?detail=524
Keep in mind that there a number of variables regarding dyno testing, such as temp, altitude, humidity and operator, among others. Not to mention condition of the unit being tested.
So where am I going with all this? I had the opportunity to get my bike on the dyno on Sunday at Paatving's Quadfest. Precision Engineering had their mobile Dynojet dyno on site. I wasn't really interested in actual hp numbers, but rather optimizing my jet setup.
The guys from Precision wanted to fit a set of slicks mounted on sport quad wheels, but rear brake clearance issues prohibited that. The dyno guys told me that I would probably show about 5 less HP without them, due to the knobbys (ATR's) that I run.
They did an air/fuel test and a baseline run. This showed that my main was one size rich and my idle mixture was (what turned out to be) a half turn lean. The needle was a hair lean. After changing these things, we retested. The air/fuel ratio looked good all around. Final power: 19 hp, 16.6 lb/ft of torque, plus the thoeretical 5hp tire loss. It was also extrermely humid, not great for power. Will try to get the sheets posted somewhere.
To review, my bike is 366cc, 10.5:1, FST port /polish, race springs and Kibblewhite valves, FST high flow intake w/Uni, Hotcam, adjustable TPI valves in my airbox lid and White R4 exhaust.
Food for thought.

19 with including the 5 hp increase or 19 +5 so u would have 24?
still either way 24 is less then a stoke 400 and thats with atleat $1500 worth or mods and your guessing 20.7 w/ about $50 not to be mean but guess a little lower lik i said b4 maybe 18......probally less
im not here to give the impression that u need 50 hp cuz look at me i gotta 88 warrior w/ a lil over $500 on it and i no id b lucky to hit 25
