What to do next
#1
Hi Guys
I have had my DS for about 15 months. I love riding it but I am kind of getting frustrated trying to keep up with my room mate when it comes to doing hill climbs and treeshots.
I have already repiped, jetted and added a KN filter. I have also dropped one tooth on my front sprocket. But I still need to find a way to get a little more bottom end grunt. I have been thinking about adding a aftermarket CDI but also have thought about getting the head done. Or maybe both.
What do you think will get me more bottom end. I am not a drag racer so top end is not important to me.

I just did a 13.1 piston and cams and it made a big difference all around. It pulls the wheels off the ground in 1st thru 3rd with just throttle with no problem now. And it also pulls in mid and top much better now.

I have 3 recommendations:
1- Buy a new cdi rev box. I like the new Big Gun Rev Box. They are the only people who will state that the curve has been modified. The stock box does not start to advance the timing till 2600rpm, this new box should add bottom end torque that you will feel. They also carry a one year warranty. I am not a dealer.
2- Take out the throttle spring in your carb. Measure its overall length. It needs to be 3 1/8 inch for best throttle response. 05's are at 3 1/8, but older carbs vary. Cut your spring to this length.
Do not go shorter, static height is 2 7/8 and you need alittle pressure to keep slide from bouncing at low speeds.
3- Have your intake manifold ported, this is a mid to top increase and that is why I recommended it last.

The stock carb is a good carb for trail riding and riding in the woods, it is smooth and reliable, BUT if you need more POWER you will need to get a a better carb. Thier are several to choose from, and all of them will make a big improvement over stock especially on the bottom end.

If you are not a drag racer may I ask why you elected to go with the +4 Ace swing arm? I don't see the purpose of a longer swing arm.... for dune and trail riding anyway.....
