Default Big Bear 400 or Kodiak 400??

Is the Kodiak 400 worth the extra $600 over the Big Bear? I am referenceing the MSRP of both since I do not have concrete numbers from a dealer yet. So lets just use the MSRP's as example prices. Please do not bring in the Kodiak 450 at this point, as I am well aware of this machine, however I would like opinions on the bIg Bear and 400 Kodiak only at this point.

At first thought They are very much the same except the Kodiak has an Auto, has higher towing capacity, IRS, and higher compression ratio.

Ugly88,

Well, I don't own nor have ever had either a Kodiak 400 or Big Bear 400, but, IMO, yes, the Kodiak 400 is worth the extra $600 to spend over getting a Big Bear. It's all relative to what the buyer wants though. I know you say not to bring in the 450, but I personally was willing to spend the extra money to go up to a Kodiak 450 from the 400 in order to have the front differential locker, high & low gear and more cc's, but that's just me. You'll have to weigh the option differences and ultimately choose for yourself.

I personally would be willing to spend the extra cash (K400 vs. BB400) because of the following;

1) Front and Rear disc brakes vs. Front disc and rear drum.
2) Front and rear wheel engine breaking vs. unknown on BB
3) 401cc liquid cooled vs. 386cc Air/Oil cooler
4) Over an inch more ground clearance on the K400
5) slightly tighter turn radius on the K400
6) Higher towing and IRS on K400 (which you already mentioned)

If you're financing the purchase (which if so, I recommend not doing it with the Yamaha financing), then $600 is not that big of a deal in the end run of the payoff when you consider the added specs you get. Hope this helps in your decision.

Oh, one other thing. I'm not a rich man by any means, but I've learned the hard way that it's the better decision to spend a little extra to get what you want and be happy, even if you might be tight on cash, because if you don't, you always wish later that you did.

Normally, the cost to up-grade to the next level of quad under the same manufacturer is usualy worth the extra cash.

Oh you are SOOOO right. Can't tell you how many times I bought the "cheaper" item only to end up returning it or selling it to finally get what I really wanted in the first place, and this COSTS far more in the long run.

the kodiak is definatelly a better choice but also if u are willing to spend a little more then go for the 450 kodiak because it has many differances that make the quad better.
