My instant messenger hasn't been working for like a few months and still wont work. I have uninstalled it and downloasded it again about 5-10 time and still the same problem. Everytime i sign on, when i click on a screenname to talk to the "aol has encountered a problem and needs to close" thing comes up. So i did a bunch of virus scans and spyware scans and still dont work. So then i used the Norton WinDoctor on norton antivirus and foud the problem. "Invalid ActiveX/COM Entries." And i clicked repair but after i search for problems again and the same thing comes right back up.
Any Suggestions?

garrett5462,are you using a firewall,if so,make sure to allow instant messanger to communicate through the firewall. Some firewalls( i use zone alarm)will not allow active x controls to load by default but need to be assigned to allow communications and programs to access the internet.Second, check your browser settings by clicking tools at the top of your web browser, click internet opitions(or similar option depending on what browser you are using)may be under security function, check box to allow active x control to be loaded.repost if this doesnt work and I can give you my e-mail if you care for more help.

garrett, sorry I didnt repost last night but ended up getting tipsy and fell asleep. One more question, what browser are you using?(internet explorer, firefox?)If you answer this,I can help much better.the good news is that this problem is not caused by spyware or viruses but most likely a internal security system in your browser not letting active x to run...

ok,click tools, select internet options, click security,at the bottom click "custom level" this is were you can check active x controls, make sure you check prompt which allows you to load active x anytime its needed but is more secure because it will ask you to allow it to load first.check all boxes for active x.Also if you still have problems, there is a great free instant messanger program called trillian (can download at www.download.com)it wraps all the i.m programs into one.I use it and can monotor aol,msn and others from one program and it lets me see and write to multiple people on different im programs at the same time.
