tried to ride today and the f--ing thing wont start--ever since i bought it new last year it has had starting problems..
the dealer looked it over and said nothing wrong last time i brought the ds in to them for starting problems, so to today---
finally jump start it but it wont run unless the cables are on it, then it will idle but give it gas with the jumpers off and it stalls..so while it is idling i turn the low beam on and it runs great(what).. so i ride a while and it starts bogging down , so i put the high beams on and it runs great again(what)...so i rode all day like this but ever time it shut off i had to pop it with the lights on...
dude what the hell is this!
last year my head lights blew in the first day of riding and the thing wouldnt start sometimes it would just make a weird noise like click-click-click then it would buzz, but if you tapped the elecrtic start button sometimes it would start.. not anymore
i have a big electrical problem it sounds like to me, but nobody can figuire it out

Chris, have you tried a new battery? You might have a broken thingy in there. And yes that is the technical term for it!

Check your fuses while you do all of this. Get a new battery and then take it from there.

Let's start with the free stuff first. . .
Check all your electrical connections (while at St. A's this month my DS was popping here an there. . . then we got out to Choke Cherry and it was popping so bad I couldn't make it up. . . re-jetted. . .went out. . . still popping. . . jetted again. . . still popping. . . came back and was about to pull the carbs off and tear into them. . . found the negative connection to the battery was loose. Ran strong the rest of the trip )
I'ld look for a voltage regulator on e-Bay or see if someone has an extra you can borrow to trouble shoot. . . (do you know anyone with a DS? Would be easy to pull theirs off and try on your bike.)
Same as above for a battery. Even if it isn't a DS you should be able to get just about any ATV battery in there and try it out.
If you think it is your starter switch, pull it apart and take a look inside or again, borrow the one off your buddies bike and try that out.
My bet is loose connection or battery but, I've been wrong on these Forum Trouble-shoots more times than I can count.

Chriochris heres a few things to check:
-If the battery is charging
-If the stator is putting out enough power
-Check the battery terminal connections
-Check voltage regulator
-Check the CDI, coils
-Check engine Grounds
-Check all wires in ware areas
-Check or eliminate the kill switch
-Make sure head light bulbs are in correct, It is kinda idoit prof but you never know
I know thats like all the electrical system but thats what, I do.
the head light bulbs are gonning out left and right on the 04 and later years, even on a 2006 that was just sold a week ago has gone through 3 bulbs! But the first Ds sold at my dealership still has the same bulbs it was sold with.
Most dealerships don't care much about the DS, because It is not a high selling bike, they'd rather sell you a little 450. Thats what makes the single line dealers specail, They only got the DS and are dam proud of it!

can it be narrowed down with the fact that it ran once i turned the lights on..
today with the lights off it would only idle, if i gave it gas it would pop and studder and stall, then while it was idling i hit the lights
and i was fine, road all day... but if it stalled had to be popped started, no electric,
the dealer cant figuire it out, real pain in the ***.......
