I just turned 100 mi mark on my 05 400 Manual AC i ride along a 500 AC and an H1 AC. While both these machines have been in the shop for small repairs mine has had no problem, and we ride in some mud and water up to the seat. Although you will not ride a wheelie or break any sound barriers with 400 AC it will be reliable, and it has done everything a 500 or H1 AC. Well the cons are No LOW REVERSE nothing you can do about it, But the only time i have needed it is on big rocks, never any trouble in mud or anything else.

They are great quads, very durable and reliable. The top speed on the manual is about 52-54mph, the auto is about 5mph slower then that. Good turning radius, just turn the handlebars and give it gas the back end will spin around I don't think a wheelie would be possible, unless you have a bump you can hit first to get the front end in the air. The Arctic Cats are great for going through deep mud and bumpy land. They won't set any speed records, but they are solid. The diff locker wasn't put on the 400 until 2005. Then it also got the digital display.

I have a manuel. 04. Like it alot, handling, power, plowing, and work. All real good. Aux. brake ( rear foot brake) not so good. Check both Diffs. cause my rear was dry, front was alittle low.

I keep hearing about the foot brake not being any good. I burnished my foot brake like the hand brake and can lock up the rear tires with it. Works great if you ask me. The hi reverse does suck the big one.

I just sold my 2004 300 and bought my Dad's 2003 400 4x4 auto from him and I love Arctic Cat! My 300 was a solid machine and very dependable, and this 400 auto. is a tank! That's all I can say! The foot brake sucks, and the high reverse sucks. But everything else is WAY ahead of the competition in my opinion.
