Swingarm for 86 250r
#1
Does anyone know where i could get a swingarm for an 86 250r? I have checked on ebay and they have a few for the 86 but most are for the 88 and 89. I am not wanting to purchase a brand new one, looking for a used one that is in good shape. Either stk. length or +1 inch. The brand of the swingarm doesn't really matter, i would settle for a stock one if i could find it. I cracked mine on the top next to where the swingarm bolt goes through the frame. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

If you have access to a welder go with the 88 or 89. A long time ago we upgraded my brothers 86 to an 88. They are much lighter since they are aluminum and actually about -1" shorter and gives you a little more traction. Don't know why you would want to go longer than an 86 looks like it would spin tires to easily and even with the 88 being a little shorter you still wont have to worry about the frond end being light. Its been awhile but I think the swap was straight forward with the exception of welding some new lower engine mounts on the frame, but that was a peice of cake even with my minimal welding skills. Looking at the set-up of your quad you look to be an MX'er if so you will definatly prefer the shorter swingarm.

What do you have to weld to the frame to make the 88 to 89 swingarm work. I have found several of them on ebay but, i knew you had to do some fabricating. I found a Laegar swingarm which was stk. length for the 86 on ebay for $335 but i don't think it had the bearing carrier. I have a miller wire welder so i could do the welding my self i am just wondering what all i will have to do.. Thanks for the responses i will check out the 85 swingarm. If i could get instructions of what i needed to weld on to my frame for the 88 to 89 swingarm to work i would do that, i would rather have somehting to go by before i start doing this to my frame. Thanks again....

I prefer the '86 length swingarm as I think it adds stability. My R also seems to skip across the tops of whoops better than the '88s Ive ridden, but maybe thats just me. Im 6 foot so i dont really have to stretch too far to get most of my weight over the back wheels.

1988fast250X, i looked at that swingarm and l put it under watch item on my ebay. There is also a Houser swingarm on there but am not sure what year it is for. What would be the maximum you would bid on the one that came off the 85ATC and what about the Houser? I am assuming that the one off the 85 ATC will work on my quad. Right? Thanks...

i personally wouldnt go any higher than $150 thats me but for the houser something like 200 to 250 depends how bad you want it and how bad the other guys on wait until it has like 2 hours or something like than then start watching it!!! then go for your bidding and stuff

I found a Laegars swingarm on ebay to fit the 86-87 but is a MX style, and says it is the same length as the 88-89 swingarm. The price is $335 has new swingarm bolt bearings but, doesn't come with a bearing carrier. I thought this was a little high just wanted to get your opinion. I asked the guy what the least he would take for it would be and he said the price it was listed at.

Sounds good you can email me at ryan_cole20@hotmail.com if you find it. Also how good of shape is it in? Am I goign to be wheeleing a lot with the -2 inches? On ebay rite now there is a Lonestar swingarm it is -1 inch says it is the 88-89 geometry. I thought it looked like it would fit the 86-87 if anyone on here can tell by looking at them i would appreciate it the auction ends in 43 minutes. Just type in 250r swingarm it is the second one down on the list.
