Default Legal Question about Burning CD's

A guy in a different forum has asked me to copy a set of disks to a device that we have in common. I have never met this guy and wouldn't know him in at all. I was going to mail him these disks for free and then my wife made a comment about if it was legal. I guess that I am scared about the slim chance this could be some sort of set up to catch people making a selling illegal copies of things. I was just wondering because I know that I bought a "burned" copy of a manuel for my quad off of ebay. The name of my quad was even written on the disk in "Sharpie!" I have a law enforcement job waiting in the wings and I would really hate for something like this to screw that up. Am I being paranoid or should I just tell him the disks wouldn't work? Any lawyers out there know?

Man thats a tuff one but yea you CAN get in trouble read the cd case lol but I do know it 100% legal to make a back up copy for yourself so why it's illegal to>GIVE< a copy to someone im not sure I could see why its illegal to sell it then your makeing profit from there cd with out permisson. The things people gets suied for these days is pathetic so I personally would say no dont do it unless you know the person well.

I am not a lawyer but keep up on these issues because I "back-up" stuff frequently. It is illegal to reproduce copyrighted material for distrubution(free or paid)without permission from copyright owner but if this guy asked you to do it ,entrapment is also illegal.

If it is software to a device that he paid for he is entitled to have that software. For example if you buy a burner and it comes with a OEM version of Nero and you lose it, you can have the Manufactuer send you another copy or have someone burn you a copy of it. Now if it was a movie or an album then i would not do it.

I am an officer of the iicpa (international internet copywrite prevention association) Although you may have sent this without a return address we can still follow this up through your isp and comp id. We need to talk.

just kidding. lol.

I burn all kinds of stuff although I dont give it out. I would say you probably dont have much to worry about. The individuals that do this or not as likely to be chased down as much as people who make profit from it, (large amounts.) Just my .02

Default Legal Question about Burning CD's

I'm more worried about screwing up my job with the Sheriff's department than anything else. I know that the chances are slim, but I guess I am just paranoid. I have been trying more or less for over 12 years to get this job and I would hate to lose it because of something like this. I didn't know if someone knew what the laws were about this kind of thing.
