Ive recently got into drag racing my 700 praire at local county fairs. So far i have a dyna and thats it. Im going to order a epi red spring before too long. Right now i race with my stock rims and tires. My friend at work has a vforce and he said i could do better if i used his tires. I dont see how a smaller tire would help but if it makes me faster id use it. Has anybody on here ever tried racing with 22" vforce tire?

mikeyboyEsq. has them he uses them for xc racing I think,Mike Walker(newbeatle on this forum) is the man to talk to about tire combinations he has a lot of differant combos.

 

I'm also looking at this option, do anybody have any pros and cons about it?

 

It will drop the ratio down a bunch, you'll lose top end speed.

 

I'm running smaller tires, when we race 300 ft on dirts. 22" 4 snows.

Yes, I use 22" tires on my P650 for XC racing. I have a set of stock REAR v-force wheels and tires and thye bolt right up with no problems. However, the FRONT v-force wheels won't work on a P650 b/c of the different bolt patterns.

To solve the front wheel/tire problem, I found that you have 2 choices. You can either run 11" front rims like the ones off an old Bayou 300/400 or you can buy some custom 10" front rims like the ones made by Kaiser.

11" BAYOU RIMS
The old Bayou 300/400 has the same bolt pattern as the P650, so it bolts right up. However, I could not find any stock Bayou front rims when I was looking, so I bought some new Douglas Red Label front rims made to fit on the Bayou 300/400. The only downside to these Douglas 11" rims is that I had to use 1" wheel spacers to make the rims fit without rubbing the brake calipers and also the VERY LIMITED Tire Selection. With 11x7 front rims, there are basically only 3 tire choices in 22" diameter that I found. 1 is a stock front tire off the Honda Recon 250 and another is the stock front tire off the Suz Ozark 250. Both of these are poor tires for XC racing b/c of the flimsey sidewalls. I tried one of these stockers for about 10 months and did not have any flats, but didn't like the side wall flex in tight turns. So I recently found and installed a set of 22" gators made to fit on an 11x7 rim. These are strong, 6 ply tires with deep lugs and stong side walls...however, they weigh more than the other 2 options mentioned above.

10" CUSTOM RIMS
To be honest, Kaiser makes 10" rims to fit most any specification and their prices are VERY REASONABLE. If I had to do it over, I would try custom 10" rims b/c of the WIDE VARIETY OF TIRE CHOICES that fit on 10" front rims. However, you may still end up using 1" wheel spacers with these custom rims if you don't select the right offset.


22" TIRES - PROS:
1) MUCH BETTER handling in tight turns thanx to lower center of gravity (helps me keep up with the sport quads in the woods),
2) 22" tires are Much Lighter Weight than 25" wheels,
3) 22" tires results in lower gearing and (in theory) faster acceleration if the clutch is set-up correctly

22" TIRES - CONS:
1) Lost 1.5" of Ground Clearance (Be sure to watch for stumps and potholes),
2) Bumpier Ride on the rough stuff,
3) Lost approx. 1 mph top-speed

Overall, I really like my 22" tire set-up for XC racing on DRY and/or semi-smooth terrain...but prefer my 25" tires for XC racing on MUDDY and/or rocky terrain.

PS - I want to say THANX to Mike Walker for his tire/rim advice last summer...he helped me figure out which tires/rims to buy for my P650 and it worked out pretty good.
