I have an '03' and love it. Mines not full-time 4x4, (I didn't know they made them full time 4wd), but it hardly makes a difference. Arctic Cats run and run and run. Mine plows through mud like a tank and rides like a Caddy. If you're into quick throttle and blazing speed, keep on looking. However, if you want a quad that will run circles around anything else, (other than another Arctic Cat) in the mud, rocks and trails, then the 400 is perfect. 4-grand seems like a great deal on an '05'

The only thing bad about my machine is the analog fuel guage is worthless. If yours is digital, it should be no problem. People don't like the stock tires, but I think the Goodyears are awesome - haven't been stuck yet and I've been in some wild soup. Putting an EPI clutch kit in mine, (auto) to give it more ooomph in the steeps. If yours is manual, it should be no issue...Buy it and you will see how mistaken you were about not being "too keen" on them - especially when you're passing people in the soup, backing up and hauling them out... The full time 4X4 model is the VP model which is the low priced model. I got my regular '05 400 manual with 2X4, 4X4 and locker for a grand more than that. Not a bad deal for me and neither is $4K for the VP model.

Sounds Good.. The only reson why im not to kean is Iv been riden a Kawasaki for a few years now. I guess its the switch I dont know
Its a Base model no guages nothin ill custom fab a plate for a speedo or buy one thats made. I was thinkin a lift kit any good ones out there? What about a locker? I love those lockers mine has one even though its a 2x4 still gets the job done so im just hopein to get one on the A/C well thanks for the info

AC makes an optional speedo for your quad - it comes with all the hardware, so no worries there. As far as lift kits, they are out there, but I think you'll find it unessecary, (unless you like the look). Bear may be able to clarify if the VP suspension is set up differently, but my stock ground clearance eclipses a Honda Rincon. Bear may also know if the optional 2x4, 4x4 kit will work on your model, (I don't think it does). Still, in full-time 4x4 you will have a rockin machine and for 4-grand a good buy. I like Suzuki's too, but you will forget about her very, very soon...

By the way, did I mention that Bear knows nearly everything?.... Seriously, he's a great source for info.....

I could be mistaken, but if I am bear will correct me , But I think the VP model is not fis, but a straight axle with a shock on each side of the axle, it rides good and works kind of like a fis but does not have the clearance of an independant.

The "VP" editin is the old ACT rear end, a semi independant, 4 link design that's bulletproof. Ride is equivilant to an IRS, but you do lose a little ground clearance. I compensated with bigger tires,27" and now have 13" GC @ the skid plate, and about 9" below the diff. I still rarely hit anything, and I ride almost exclusively in big rocks and stumps. If you can get that machine for that price, I'd buy it.
