Best chain lube?
#1
What is the best product for lubing a cleaned chain? I once saw an article about using wax and oil, heated together, but I don't know the formula. What can I buy that will help keep the chain lubed, in dusty conditions.

After you wash it (after each ride I hope) ride the quad for 5-10 minutes, this does two things, ir air dries the quad, and it also warms the chain up, this is when you should apply Maxima chain wax, or PJ1 chain lube. Lubing the chain when it is warm sucks the lube into all the nooks and crannies, like soldering flux. The two brands mentioned are my personal preferences. I also lube it again before I ride.

I stole some Klotz's chain lube from my uncle before we went riding, and I plan on using that from now on. It kinda foams out of the can and really sticks to the chain and doesn't seem to fling off or get rinsed of by mud puddles at all. kinda messy if you get any on ya though

There are lots of good brands, but what I look for is something that goes on thin & runny, then dries to a film that doesn't collect dust. The best stuff I ever used was Honda brand, but they reformulated it & I don't think it is as good as it was. I agree with the idea to rinse it off, then ride around for a few minutes before lubing the chain. Had 8,000 on the chain on my dirt bike (sold it with the original chain) and have 3400 miles on the chain on my Xplorer, but don't mud much. I think it will go over 5000 if all goes well.

You have to be careful with wd-40. It will work, but I am not sure if it will protect the o-rings in the long run. It also flings off at high speeds. Then all you have left is a very small film of oil to protect the chain.
If you get one of the good quality o-ring chain lubes, they are made to go on wet, then dry to a waxy compound that still lubricates, but does not fling off or attract dirt.
