Ok i have choosen my 2 bikes that i want there both used and i cant decide wich one to get ok a 250r that had reeds, pipe, bored .20 over, holeshots, airfilter, carb jetted, and handle bars, and a gaphics kit , poder coated frame the hole bike gone through and everything!! i dont know if its extended or not!
or the stock z400! i do alot of mx racing and need one thats reliable and fast on the track!
im worried about the 250r reliability!! since its an 86 model!!
i dont want anything thats going to break down on me atleast for a year od MX racing i can handle a clutch leaver or bearing (not in the engine) going out or something like that i just dont want any engine trouble!!! how do i tell if the r is running good and not a piece od junk that looks good just to sell it to me i will ride it first!! but is there anything to look for when i go buy it???
and the z400 is stock!!
i need something thats reliable and fast on the track!!
whats the main things that go wrong with both of those bikes??
PLEASE HELP ME!!
THANKS

Thats a tough choice....... the 250R with the listed mods is going to be quicker. I think the 250R is also a better mx quad than the Z400 but thats just my opinion. The Z400 is going to be better in the trails but not on the track. The Z400 is most likely going to more reliable beacuse its so much newer and has less hours on it plus in my past experience i have had better luck with 4 strokes than 2 strokes. What kind of shape is the 250R in? if it is in really good condition i would go with it for the track, and racing, any other case i would go with the Z.

the couple of R's im looking at have all fresh top ends in them and mabe bored .20 over and are all pretty nice to me they seem good!! whats the major thing to look out for with the R??? im looking for one that i can hop on and go no problems i half to worry about!!!!! I dont mind putting a piston in one at all thats easy!! I just dont want anything going wrong with the r majorly i have had pretty good luck with 2 strokes so far (dirtbike wise) if i get the r its going to be totaly gone throught the frame and everything!! engine freshly rebuild! should i go for it i also race a pretty good bit im on the track alot! i will not ever run the r wide oppen like on pavement or anything like that i will drag my uncles 400ex once but if i bring it up on top end i will let off really quick i have herd those motors lock up if you hold them fo alittle hile like that
does the r have alot of tourqe????
what happened to you and your 2 strokes???

The R does not have much low-end torque, but it hits hard in the mid-upper range. By the way it would take a 400ex out with little trouble, the Z would do the same but it would be a close one. A 250R requires alot more maintence than a 4 stroke, beacuse the engine revs so much higher. If your looking for reliability go with the Z, if your looking to win on the track go with the R. I think the best choice for you would be to get a TRX450 or a YFZ. They are both quicker than the Z, and the R in stock form. Plus since your going to be raceing they are the best mx quads you can buy. You pretty much get what you pay for. I had a friend who had a 250R the thing was always in the shop, doesnt say much cause the kid was insane with the thing.

Thanks im not the kinda person thought that doesnt take care of his bikes the only time i ride them hard is on the track!!! THATS IT i keep the maintenece up on them change the oil and wheel bearings if i need to!! and after i have like 40 hours on the bike i will put a new piston in it now problem!!! i think im getting the r so what should i look for when buying????
shouldnt the r beat the 450's on the track????
shouldnt the r beat the 450's on the track????

On the track the R will loose beacuse the 450 has the best technology that has ever gone into a quad. The technology is more up to date is what i am saying, the 450's are made specificly for mx racing. If your going with the R make sure their are no funny sounds coming from the engine, take a look at the rear end, make sure it has not been beat to hell you know. Make sure their is no play in the rear end, or front end, cause bearing suck to replace. sorry about spelling i just got back from a party lol

Im sure if you set up the R for MX it could take a YFZ or TRX but it would be expensive. If you have the money and if ur planning to do mx racing i would go with either a YFZ,TRX, or even a cannondale. If your on a budget a 250R will still get the job done with little trouble. good luck
