A couple of questions on the 450R, knowledgable people please respond
#1
Hey, I've been reading on here for a few months and finally got my first sport quad last week when I traded in my rancher for a '05 450R. I have already installed the pro design proflow filter kit, yosh slip on, the 13 tooth front sprocket, and had it jetted.
My first and most important question is this, I asked the dealership to remove my airbox lid when they jetted my quad, but the didn't. I have asked a few people what the difference would be if i had the airbox removed, and the only answer i get is more power. Somy question is should i remove the airbox and get it rejetted? or leave it alone? And what kind of power will i get if I do this, low end? AND what will I be sacraficing, top end? Someone with some knowledge on this subject please respond.
One more question, does anyone know where I can find a graphics kit for the black 450R?

The question is what do you do with your quad? If you race it on a track i would say remove the lid and re-jet. If you ride alot of sand areas no lid CAN be harmful to the quad. You MIGHT notice a little more power on take off (more air+ more fuel= more power) but its highly doubtful you will notice anything major as far as gains and losses. It all depends on what you plan to do with your quad.
As far as graphics kits, I myself have the One Industries Elsinore kit and it is sweet, but check duncan racing, one industries, h-bomb films, just to name a few, i know K&K has some of the more popular ones also.
Hope this helps.

removeing your airbox lid and rejetting WILL make a difference and you should notice it all the way through your rpm range.if your worried about sand , get a pre-filter.

If you ride in the wet a lot, you might just be better off with the lid left on???? If you decide to go with it off, I highly recommend the EHS Racing lid which has an Outerwears cover (http://www.ehsracing.com/). As for a rejet, I would say that it would be absolutely necessary after pulling the lid off.
If you really want more power, get the HRC cam!

The air box lid only needs to be used in very wet conditions.

taking the lid off will make a nice difference, especially if you have a cam and full pipe. of course, it probably won't if you don't rejet. but if that was the case you are just asking for trouble
