Default 2001 400EX - Carb / Fuel overflow problem...

Hey all,

As you may know (If you've seen any of my other posts) I obtained a 2001 400EX from my cousin, who didn't take the best care of it....

In any case, This problem just started recently (That i know of)...

Once you turn off the engine, if you don't turn the fuel to the "Off" Position, the float bowl will over flow and just constantly leak fuel out of the overflow tube.

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

Thanks,

-ThaChad

The float controls a shut off, called the needle and seat. When the float rises due to being full, the needle shuts off the flow at the seat. If theres dirt or crud in the way, then gas can still come thru. Youre gonna have to take the float bowl off and then the seat and needle can be cleaned up with some very fine steel wool, or scotchbrite.

want to try a easier way? lol my rancher had the issue for 4 months, had the carb off 15 times, no exageration and put a rebuild kit in it. still didn't fix the problem

my actual fix was opening the drain blow screw compltely, taking off the main fuel hose, took a blow off tool, turn the compressor on to about 120 psi and hit the trigger till no more gas was in the carb, lol fixed my problem and i got about 2k on the bike since then no problem, i did add a fuel filter though

Could be just as simple as floats are set too high...

Pull carb,, remove bowl,, You will see the floats, pretty self explanitory as to how they work.. Make sure all is ok, nothing obviously wrong.. slightly bend tabs to shut fuel off at a lower level...

Be gentle............

Well, I pulled the carb off...

There was nothing obstructing the floats at all, Pulled all the jets, the jets were cloged up, so i got those cleaned out.

Sprayed the whole carb out with carb cleaner... Put it all back together...

So far, it seams to be working correctly again, it hasn't overflowed since I put it back on, but I will have to use it a few times to know for sure if it will start overflowing again...
