Help for a new Raptor 660 owner- a few Q's
#1
What a great website, which means a great bunch of enthusiasts. Thanks for all of the threads I have read today.
One thing I need to know is where to get a good manual? I bought the Yamaha manual, but it is pretty limited. I need to remove the starter and replace the starter clutch system ( on a 20-ride bike, 03 and it growled when new, according to the original owner) and the Service manual doesn't show chit ( unless I am blind).
Second is, for a stock cammed trail riding application which slip on or full exhaust is suggested? I am interested in the HMF quiet series, and will call them for a recommendation, but I am not sure if their up-to-date on technology, or if someone else is better for the $$. I will ride on both forrest service trails/ logging roads and state parks, so I believe I need the 101 DB or less setup.
Only thing I can gather from past threads is probably keeping a stock headpipe ( size anyway) will probably keep the low end grunt, while allowing some good gains. I know enlarging a headpipe usually gaiuns on the top end, but at a severe loss on the bottom unless you undergear the front sprocket.
Thanks for any suggestions. What an improvement ( Raptor) over my old Suz 230 quadsport I had back in the early 90's...........

I have a full Yoshimira Comp system on my 01 Raptor, with a K&N and holes in the airbox lid and 150-155 main jets. It lost no low end power with the full system including headpipe, in fact gained a bunch. I like the Yoshi because it's quieter than many others, well built, and has the spark arrestor. I also geared it down to a 12-42 gearing (stock was 13-40 I think) but the 01 tranny has funky ratios too. Welcome to the nuthouse!

Thanks for the information.I will look into the Yoshi pipe, glad to hear bottom end was not lost. I see on HMF's website it shows a 5 hp increase at 2500, and 4 hp with the full system ( so the headpipe does loose a little bottom end, it seems, but of course is MORE than stock!)
And thanks for the welcome. Going camping/ riding this weekend, we will see if I survive-lol.
