Tires / Rims for KQ
#1
I recently bought a new KQ and am considering upgrading the tires. Do I need new rims or will the stock rims be OK with a 26" or 27" tire? Any recommendations on tires or tire / rim combo? Thanks.----Kevin

I have not seen any good pics of the Maxxis rims. If I see them and like them I would consider them. I know ITP wheels have a great reputation for quality. I have not heard much about the Maxxis wheels other than one article in an ATV mag.

Utah, have you used the Bighorns before? They look like a great tire, I just wonder how well they would eject mud and snow from the tread? Although depending where you are in Utah you may not have to worry about snow like us Eastern Canadians! Last year the average snow depth on some trails was 6.5 feet, a couple of inches on either side of the groomed trail and it was bye bye bike. I actually saw a Grizzly 660 disappear like it was quicksand, pretty funny actually so long as it was not yours.

Depends on the type of riding you do. For a good all around mud, snow, trail the Mudlite is the best. I'd recommend 26". I was told by my ATV mechanic that if I go to a 27" I should consider a clutch kit as well. The 26's are still plenty heavy compared to the stock KQ tires, which by the way . . . are almost worthless for mud. I had little 500 Sportsmans passing me up in mud holes while I sat and spun!! Dang-it anyway!! The big difference was, they had better tires.

There's another fella on here that has the same tire/rim set-up as you, but on a yellow KQ. His pics are on his profile. Unfortunately, I cannot recall his handle. He's from up in Alaska though. His machine, with the tire/rim set-up you described, looks VERY nice! I'm sure yours does, too.
