Gary Denton on the 250R vs. the new R and YFZ
#1
Denton was interviewed in the oct. issue of Dirt Wheels and was asked about the old vs. the new. Here's what he said:
(BTW, for those too young to know, Gary Denton was the top MX rider for years. He won 8 straight titles from the late 80s to the early 90s. He was Natalie Jr. and Gust rolled into one. He's the owner and founder of Denton Racing.)
GD: "...that old 250R, that was a great machine. In the right traction, it was the best."
DW: How would it fare today against machines like the 450R and the YFZ450?
GD: Like I said, in the right traction, it would be unbeatable....On the pipe and in the right dirt and you're gone. It would smoke these new machines. It was the best machine of its day.

I remember hearing about that guy being the top Suzuki guy on an '85 Quadracer in the day before switchin to MX. But everyone agrees the TRX250R was king. I would love to find one in decent shape..........

Denton was the man, still is in some aspects. After Suzuki pulled out of sponsorship, he was racing an LT250R for TT and a TRX250R for MX. As dominate as he was in that era, he would most likely take the current crop of pro's regardless of what quad they were on. Notice how he said in the right traction coonditions though. I am more and more impressed with my 450 everyday. This thing really puts the power to the ground where the 250's are spinning.

all i have to compare to was an lt250R and my 450R smokes it. But the lt wasnt really built too much either and the handling was poop (worn out shocks). I really need to get a ride one a trx250R thats in good shape. I would love to build one someday.
