26" tires on 2001 Xplorer 400 ?
#1
I've been looking into getting different tires for awhile now. Ok, actually trying to talk the wife into letting me do it. But since I have the time to look, I've decided on a couple of different brands but I'm wondering about size. I'd like to keep stock size (25") but I've thought about going to 26". What kind of performance hit would I take? I'm not so much worried about top speed, more like will I notice any power loss in snow or mud? Would I need spacers for the front? Any info. is appreciated.

Put a white Polaris spring in the primary clutch, and you will be good to go. This is the least expensive and most effective way to bring back the performance that you will lose by going to a larger diameter and heavier tire.

Thanks for the response. I was planning on eventually putting a white primary spring in, it was just a matter of getting around to it. If I do get the 26" tires I'll have a reason to get off my a$$ and do it. Thanks again.

Riding on the streets is great. It's a lot cheaper on gas too! Our cops (our town is about 135,000 people) even have an ATV or two that are street legal. The winters aren't too bad. It's only bad when it's below zero with a wind. Winters here make you appreciate summer a lot more.
