You don't want to put a KX500 engine in there and I'll give you a few good reasons:
1. The quad has plenty of power stock and plenty more can be had with simple 2-stroke mods. Play with that for a while.
2. The KX500 engine will make it unpleasnat to ride because it's TOO explosive and more importantly: the vibration will drive you crazy.
3. IF you want more power, a 330 long rod kit can be had for about $1100 and will yield excellent results with more power than you could need AND it's very rideable with plenty of smooth torque and blistering topend. Powerwise, a 330 Tecate will whip ANY current quad and it'll hang easily with a Quadzilla. Anything else like a Banshee or a 250R would need to be WELL modded to keep up. Widen it 2 inchhes and move the front one inch forward and you've got one awesome machine for track, trail, dunes and drags. That's what I'm doing with my white Tecate 4 over the winter. The motor and chassis work can be done WITH LABOR PAID for about $2200-2500 tops.
4. It's A LOT of work and for reasons 1-3...especially #3, why bother? It's a waste of time.

LOL. I wouldn't call it "wisdom". But anyway, my advice would be to run it as is for a while. If you're really getting one and not just making chit-chat, that's my advice. Plus, what's already on it? do you know? It may have some mods already. Let me know and we'll go from there. Plus what do you intend to do with it? trailriding? dunes?
