Default Stalling Grizzly

I rode my 05' Grizzly in the pouring rain the other day and toward the end on the ride it stalled out. It would'nt start again until I opened the gas cap and put it back on. This happened twice before the end of the ride and I figure the cap was not venting right. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and do you think it was all the rain that caused this. I am going out today to ride it again with no rain and see if it still is doing it. By the way, riding in the pouring rain made me feel like a kid in a mud puddle again...... What a blast!!!!!

I have a 2001 grizzly and it does the same thing. I took it in and they didn't find anything. Now it doens't start at all. Not happy with it al all!!!! I should have sold it 3 years ago when I had the chance.

I too experienced the same problem until reading a post on this site. In the thread there is a link to another from 3TV.

This happened to me early summer, after pulling all day long. I was baffled and did all that I could think of. Then remembered I had some starting fluid laying around and shot a blast in there and it started right up. Been working fine ever since.

I have been running the Grizzly all day around the yard and I have not had this problem again. It must have gotten some water up the drain hose and plugged it while riding in the rain. This is the only problem I have had so far, other wise it has been a great quad. Thanks for the input all

zappa,,,,some folks say that sometimes while running through water their Grizz stalls,,,the reason for this was determined that when the water hits the hot exaust,it flash's steam, which in turn get's sucked into the air intake, which in turn chokes the motor

you say this happens while riding in the rain,,,do you recall if you happened to have been running through a large puddle when your bike stalls?

I was riding down a graded dirt road when it stalled and there were no big puddles to speak of, just alot of rain. As I said in the first post as soon as I removed the gas cap and put it back on it started right up and ran fine. I had to do this twice and the problem has not returned since that night. Thanks for the info. I have seen steam come up from the engine when muddin' before but it never stalled

What is being described here sounds like vapor lock.

It is usually caused when riding slowly enough that the fuel inside the gas tank is heated causing it to expand. After the expansion a nice quick drop in temperature will cause the gas to contract rapidly.

There is a check ball in the gas cap that will seal the breather hose incase of rollover. In this case of rapid fuel contraction the ball is literally sucked to the base of the cap therefore vapor locking the tank from releasing fuel by gravity. Upon loosening the cap the lock is broken and the fuel flows freely.

No need to get fancy for repair or deep into explanation. It is not rocket science, just common sense.

Check the vent line on the gas cap. This occured on a rally that I was riding on. The line had a piece of dirt lodged in there and caused a vacuum in the tank not letting the fuel drain properly. Pull it off and blow it out. If any debris comes out that is what the problem is. One other thing to do is to trim the vent tube so that only about an inch of hose goes padt the plastic handle bar cover. The stock lenght is way to long and rests in the tray below the gas tank. This tray fills full of mud and debris and the hose has the tendency to suck it up.
