CR500 motor in a 250R

I seen a magazine article about it and wanted to know how much work and money it would take?
And if you would have to add a whole bunch of other stuff to it so it would fit right.
Oh ya this person i talked to asked me if there would be anyway to put a banshee motor in a............... (lol) beartracker. I looked at him like, OK? but i told him that i would ask you guys on here because he's not hooked to the internet, so any input is fine see ya later.

All of this engine swapping was done in the early90's because of a lack of new quads. Most people tried it. For the time and the problems it is not done very offen. The main problem is vibrition in a non counterbalanced engine.
I might be wrong, but isn't a Bear tracker a shaft drive and the Banshee a chain drive.

How do you figure 20 grand and 4 years?
I saw that one in dirtwheels you are talking about, its sweet!
But, I highly doubt that just to put the engine in the frame it would take even close to 20 grand or 4 years, I would think that it would depend how long it took the shop you had do your machining work to get it back to you, then about another hour or two.
As for the 20 grand, that was to make that thing all chrome, and all the high dollar parts, if you wanted a stock engine in a stock frame, not even close to that.

There's a guy that has one where i race. That thing will flat hall *****. He was running a banshee in his class and was getting beat by a 400ex. So he pulls out his dad's cr500r. He puts a half of a lap on the ex every race. The crazy story about it is that him, his brother and dad was on their trail riding bikes riding in some woods one day and they came up on the dirt bike crashed in the woods. Took it, built the motor, put it on a frame, and now takes 1st week in and out. I wish i could be that lucky!

i would not put a cr 500 engine in my 250r because they are not counter balanced and it would vibrate like crazy i would just put a 400 kit on mine and smoke 500 cr's

Big bore CR's haul major booty. My buddy had a CR500 trike and the only things that could touch him were another CR500 trike and a crazy Banshee on alky. I'm not sure how easy it is to swap the motor in a quad frame, but his was an easy conversion. Here's what everyone at Pismo saw of my friend--> The Beast

I put a 500 motor in a 86 250R frame and all it did was crack everywhere, I would recommend going with a Pilot cylinder and a stroker crank, that will give you about 450cc's.I have ridden one and they fly without all the frame cracking vibration.

Since a Pilot has the same 79mm stroke as a CR500, getting 450cc with a Pilot cylinder would mean having a longer stroke than that. Why not just use the CR500 cylinder. People put them on Pilots quite often. A shortened CR500 cylinder with a 72mm crank would give you 448cc.
