to prep body= ride, ride, ride, ride, and ride some more. since you are new to mx i would not spend alot of money on after market parts, just incase you dont like mx. most tracks do require a kill switch, you might need to purchase one. dont feel bad for racing a stock quad, most of the guys with the 25K quads had to start out some where also. for preping the quad, make sure everything and i mean everything is tight and in working conditon. if you dont it will not take long to find out what is loose or damaged. now if you want to go all out buy a quad that is already set up for mx( kandk atv has some nice quad for sale). Textone more thing, dont get out there and ride over you head. if you do, you will get put on your head.

Well, I have never raced MX, but I did go to a local MX Track & ride for practice, and let me reiterate what exracer131 said:

1)Don't ride over your ability! You WILL get hurt if you do.
2)Kill switch MANDATORY! Don't ride without it. That's the reason my Banshee has a bent a-arm now.......
3)Good helmet, goggles, gloves & boots, and a chest protector is highly recommended. Hit your bars off a big set of whoops with your chest without one and you'll understand why.
4)Check every nut & bolt before you race the first time, and after every race. EVERY race! Things tend to loosen up.

Have fun! That's what it's really all about.

They have 350cc and below classes so don't worry about a 450 or anything like that. Best thing I can tell you to do is try a couple races and see how much you like it, to be competitive it takes a lot of work and time, but before you go and do all that I would just go and try one first. Possibly before the end of this year so you can decide if you want to prepare for next season.

And don't worry about modding the quad yet, it is about the rider not the quad anyways.

i am very pleased with my 450r. to the repley motox26 had about the 350cc below class, i dont know about he mx riders in his area but here in tn and ms we do not have a 350cc below class. we have a 300cc to 200cc class. i do not recomend getting in one of these classes. most of the riders are kids that have been racing for several years and out grew the 50s and 90cc quad. i know the tracks i race at these kids are fast. i would get in a beginner class. dont worry about the cc's. i have a friend that started out on honda 250x and he was spanking guys on 400ex's, z400's, etc. like what was mentioned before unless you are in one of the upper classes winning has more to do with the rider than the quad.

Few quick questions YamahaRaptorMan. How much or if any have you jumped your Raptor 350. How well do u know your machine shifting, limits, ect... Im only asking u these questions because I went out to an open practice on an MX track with very little experince of jumping a sport qaud or riding on a track and broke my left wrist and nearly the other I hadnt even made it half away around the track I tried to set up for double but wasnt going fast enough and landed on top of the next jump. Consedering this was my very first time riding on a MX track. In my opion I woudlnt start out on MX you will be flying 50 feet through the air on any number of jumps at 60 to 70mph anything can go wrong during MX races or that fact any racing but think of the consiquences if something goes wrong while your through the air. Lets say your in fourth when you hit medium sized table top your supposed downshift into second while your in mid air but lets a you accedentaly shift into first when you land you will probally be thrown about ten feet in front of the qaud and maybe unconscience. In MX there is almost no margine for error. Im not saying to never race MX but think about the consqiunces it could have Im planning on racing next year, What Im doing almost every day my when qaud isnt in the shop practice practice practice!!!! until next year. He.ll I may not be ready race next year either. When your out on the track racing nobody gives a F.UCK about you theyll literally run
you over to pass you.

You just got to know your limits. If you are new to a track (any) pace arround untill you know whats comming up.

If you have questions about jumping your Rapter then you should not be jumping 50ft.

You don't have to set an impression on anyone, people will not say " man, that guy sucks". You are their to learn.

Don't worry about anyone else but you.

And don't forget to have fun.

Quadman, i do jump my raptor, not off anything huge. this winter im building a pretty reasonably sized ramp, so in the spring i can hit it and get a better feel for jumping.

I also plan to go to the gym all winter to jog, lift, ect. and then in the spring im going to hit a practice track to see how i like it. if i like it im going to try and go down to it every weekend. Until the beginning of august when i turn 16. then ill race(if i like it) and the next winter i plan to get a 450.

thanks for all of your input. glad i heard from people who know what their doing, especially before i go out and kill my self hitting a huge jump.
