I popped the green spring in my Xplorer this weekend. What a surprisingly easy process.
My biggest concer was losing low end power as most of my driving is crawling through bogs and slow trail riding.
Although I never had a chance to take here for a run, I did put a couple of miles dricing back and forth the driveway
. Initial seat-o-da-pants impression: low end - amazing amount of power, feels like a super low range right off the throttle hight range - seems as if it takes a little longer to get up to operating speed, but not quite sure yet, will know this weekend.
She will wheelie in low range . . :0

My Xplorer would wheelie in HIGH range without pulling up on the bars when I tried the green spring (if the tires had enough bite). Went down to white to keep my nephews from sittin' her up on the rack, not to mention my rear from their mother. In my tests, the green (and white) both brought it up to speed quicker than the stock. It may seem weaker as speed increases, but it isn't. It just seems that way because there is so much more zip off the bottom. Good luck with it.

I have a 2000 Boss, I'd like more low end pickup, but I also love to ride tight trails so I don't want to lose control at takeoff in tight areas.
So if you could handhold me a little and take me through what the changes are with the white spring I'd appreciate it. Also... considering I don't even know (yet) where the spring is on the machine. How long does it take to change. I don't mind learning.. just don't want to break my toy.

Actually the process is quite easy. This process is a combination of posts I have read here and my own experience.
1) remove floorboard on tranny side
2) remove the rubber snorkle boot (it connects the housing to the plastic breather tube)
3) remove the bolts holding the cover in place (nothing will pop out at you)
4) You will now see the belt and two pullies. The front one is the one where the spring goes. You can actually see down thru the clutch and see the spring. On the outside of the clutch you will see one centre bolt and three sets on two "outer bolts". Loosen up the centre bolt, then loosen up all the "outside" ones. Then remove all the bolts and slide off the housing. Oops . . before sliding it off be sure to mark where the two pieces meet so that you can put it back on the same way.
5) With the cover off, just slide out the spring and slide in the new one.
6) Steps 1-4 in reverse order.
Note: pay particular attention to ensuring that seal around the tranny cover is in correct as leak MAY occur.

One thing I would add to what Loyal said. There may be a little spring clip on the back of the belt cover holding the two halves together. My Xplorer had one but I don't know if they all do or not. Clear to the back about halfway down.

I tryed the green spring,
I dont think it the way to go,it grabby,not good for slow maneuvers on tight trails.
going back to stock spring!
ps 99sp500& 01 sp500 HO use the same primary spring,but diff flyweights.

Did you consider the white? I too tried the green & found it to be too grabby. The white gave some bottom end boost without being too grabby. It is about halfway between stock and the green in terms of low speed control, in my experience.
