Default which oil? Honda GN-4?

Which oil is best for a 04 Kodiak 450? The Yamaha dealer told me to use Honda GN-4. He said thats what they put in them when they service them. But i was wondering if its ok to use like regular Castrol motor oil.. its cheaper and I was told it has the same specs that the Honda GN-4 has.. and its just your buying the name and your getting it from the dealer so its more $$?? Ive been using Honda GN-4 in it since it was new, so should i just stick with it and pay the few extra dollars? Does anyone have any info on what oil they use or recommend using?

if it has the same specs, then why spend the extra money for no reason?

You can not use automotive oil in a quad. It will cause the clutch to slip because of the additives in it. I use Valvoline atv oil in my warrior which I get at autozone for 319 a quart, you can use any oil made for atv's or you can use oil for motorcycles, but just don't use oil for cars you'll end up spending a lot more repairing the damage it caused than you will save by using cheap oil.

Just make sure that the oil you buy does NOT have "Energy Conserving" in the spec circle on the back of the bottle. I used Castrol GTX in my 95 Kodiak that I used to own and it was not energy conserving.
