Default New 400ex owner, quick question

hey guys, i registered here awhile ago when i was given a blaster. i posted once or twice and then got rid of it. i just got back into atv's, i bought an 04 400ex, stock.

anyways, i ride up in capital forest (see alot of washington riders around here) and surrounding trail area's. im not a real aggressive rider, but im looking at doing some performance upgrades in the near future. i got the quad used, but it still has 4 months of the warranty left.

my question is this, my plastics are pretty scuffed from the prior owner. i think he rolled it and they are pretty rough. i want to get some black fenders, not race cut. where is the best place to look for this? i've been on ebay, all i find are race cut ones if anything. then i do random searches and find them costing 250+ a piece. is that the best deal im honestly going to find?

anything else in general to look into for this bike? i already found out the stock tires suck in the mud haha. i like to go mudding whenever its there, so ill be looking for a decent aftermarket rear tire at least.

thanks, hopefully i hold onto this quad longer then the blaster

If it already doesn't have them, on a new bike I always do nerf bars, full chassis and swingarm skid plates, and a bumper. Nerfs to protect you, and the rest of the stuff to protect the bike.

I like Holeshot tires, but if you ride a lot of mud, maybe Mudlites or something.

rockymountainmc.com should have some black fenders by the brand maijer. Although I don't recommend getting black just because black shows the most scratches and wear more than any other color.

As far as engine performance upgrades, the only thing I would do if your a trail rider is put a exhaust, air filter, and re-jet it. This way you get a little more pep and your reliability will not be affected.

As far as tires go, my friends and I have had good luck with Maxxis Razr's. They clean themselves out really good and they last a long time.

damn, yea i already forgot about skids.

it rains alot here, and i had alot of fun mudding. i will probably be doing that 90% of the time soon once it starts raining here.

im aware of the black showing everything, i have a black car haha. the plastics i have now are deep scarring though, i wouldnt be concerned with surface scratches, ect. after all this is just a toy, but the red looks horrible now. almost looks white at certain angles from the scarring.

thanks for the input, i will check that site out. i was checking out pipes too, on ebay of course. what do you guys usually run for a trail rider? thats basically all i'll be doing with the bike, im not looking to spend a ton of money on the bike. at least until its paid off. the fmf pipe i had on the old blaster was pretty nice, are the 4-core pipes decent?

FMF's are a good pipe. The Pro-Circuit T-4 is a good one, as well as any of the White Bros. pipes.

assuming those fit on the stock rims, what size are you using?

i should also mention, i dont do SERIOUS mudding, like 2 feet deep. i just go find stuff thats maybe a foot deep, its not like do or die pits.

just screwing around and bringing the quad back unrecognizable from mud. the mud lite tires look pretty serious, im thinking the maxxis razr style is more fitting for my type of riding? they were described as more of an all around tire.

the stock tires wouldnt even climb a hill this weekend about 4 feet tall with a light covering of mud. im hoping whatever i buy is at least capable of that so i can travel to the places with real mud.

Yeah those are what I am talking about. I believe those are the correct sizes. I recommend get some for the front to, everybody that I have known that has put them on the rear and left the front stock, has had trouble getting grip up front.
