OK i got a band new FMF fatty gold pipe for my 86 trx250r but it seem just looking at it that it wont fit if it was for a 88 or 87 or 89 would it not fit the 86's and why, it seems that the mount in on the bottom of the pipe and not on top were i think it should be, i held it up againest the quad but it just don't look right can someone tell me what i can do about this matter?

They do fit, i have a fmf gold series pipe on my '87. It takes a little creative manipulating to get it hooked up, but it does fit. Are you sure that you got the right pipe. I don't think the exhaust mount changed. But if you're concerned i hear the ESR pipes are nice, you could try getting one of those.

 

ESR or curtis sparks... kinda depends on your intended use and port specs, etc, etc...

You sure you don't have an ATC250R pipe?

 

I have the early style 87-89 FMF Fattty (straight pipe, no upswept bend in the pipe body) on my 86 chassis... It is an awful fit and a bear to remove but it will work. The pipe mounts are wrong for the 86 motor mounts, I had to custom mount mine. Also, the pipe is less than 1/2" from the lower brake distribution block. I was a tough to figure out, but hey it was free if I could get it to work...

This pipe is comparable to the ESR TRX5 on Dave Moore's dyno page. It is good for playing around but if performance is worth the price to you, I'd look into a Sparks TT, ESR Centermount TRX 5 or a ESR TRX 11.

May have forgotten some others, but those are at the top of my list, and I've had a lot of differen't pipes for the 250R.

 

Paul Turner all the way baby!! once u hit power band it doesn't stop pullin. it'll rev till it blows-up. great mid, and awsum top.

 

It won't look anything like the stock pipe if that is what you mean. I like Paul Turner pipes the best, chek out the Duncan Racing website.
