What is your recommendation for a starter quad? I know all about the legal age of 6, but my daughter is 4 and loves to ride. She has only been the passenger, but loves to ride with my niece on her 50 cc. I do think she is responsible enough to listen if I make sure it is throttled down.

Go with an eton viper 70 there the same size as the 50 just a little more poop . they also have a electronic govenor . You can turn them down as slow as 10 mph and increase them in I think 5 steps up to 27 mph . Nice little machine I bought my sons who is 4 fromanythingatv.com
Just make sure they have a good helmet first and for most !

Age is not always the deciding factor when considering a potential ATV.
Riding skill and size along with mental ability to handle riding risks hould be the main factors, along with what type of riding your child plans on doing.......
My son is 3 1/2 yrs old (KFX 50 with mods) and beats 8 yr olds on 80s.....so age can only be used partially in making your decision..
I have worked hard to make the KFX 50 track worthy and with the help of CT racing and many other forum members we have squeezed some life out of it.....A smaller child can learn safely on the KFX50/LT 50 and the bikes are dependable
If I was to start over again then I probably would have to go with the E-ton because they have so many perfomance parts ready to go without custom fabrication and their CVT tranny advantage(for now...what til CT Racing finishes their performance clutch kit!!!).....plus I am handy and can or upgrade the bike as needed...if you are not handy then you may want to stick to 1 of the 4 big boys since they really are built better and have a larger dealer network for servicing needs
E ton and Dinli 50s are much bigger than an LT50/KFX50....so size comes into play here
E-Ton and Dinli have so many ready to go parts that it makes them hard not to buy....
My boy can handle the performance of the bigger 50s and e has even driven an LT80, but his size won't allow him to handle the size safely....
Look at this Eton they build up and call a "Black Widow" http://etonracing1.homestead.com/etonracing.html
This is our next bike....once he gets a little bigger....$3600 complete with Stage 1 racing kit
Good luck in your search for the right bike.....no matter what you choose you will find great support and knowledge here

Thanks for all the good info. Have you had many problems with your kfx50? I am really leaning towards 1 of the major brands and I am going to be totally honest that the main reason for that is because everyone has scared the bageezees out of me that "all I am going to have is problems out of the Eton and constantly will need to have it worked on" At this time I am leary that my husband is not going to have the time to constantly be working on a quad. Do you think that the yamaha Raptor 50 is a bad purchase and one of the other major brands would be better?

I disagree with you...Many not all of the stock knock offs have features that are pretty cheap....BUT they can be made to destroy the 4 big boys rather easily
The potential is there, but not from the get go on many of the knock off brands
I have seen them both in person....
