Default 05 500

Greetings all,

New AC owner as of yesterday. I'm looking for a boost in HP for the new rig. Not looking for performance of 650 but would like to take it up a notch.

Thanks in advance.

I should be picking up my 500 auto in the next couple of weeks and would be interested in this as well.

I would like to hear some replies also, I bought a 500 to get a manual transmission, if they made a 650 manual, I would have bought it.

Approximately 2,100 reasons $$$. With the 06's out, Gander Mountain wanted rid of their 05 inventory. I know that there is more HP to be had, it is just a matter of how to get it without a lot of $$. Possibly a jet or other mod?

They are blowing out the 05's right now. Plus don't the 05 650's have frame and belt problems.

There are some free hp mods with the 500 with the exhaust. check arcticchat.com for the how too's. Its posted in there. I have the 500 manual also. It could use a little more hp top end but you can tell the engine is geared for mid range and torque. I think the 500 has plenty of power for what it was desinged for. Bigger engine just means more fuel! There is alot of great reasons to get the 500 over the 650. If they made a 650 manual that would be sweet! I never have to deal with a belt again I would be happy!

The 04s did, haven't heard of any 05s having frame problems.

Huntem & Bowtie,
Hang in there. If the new 500s are like previous models, and I have every reason to believe they are, as you get more miles they will get better - a lot stronger, almost like two different machines. The biggest improvement came between 3-500 miles.

I installed a Dynbo-Jet Kit. I'm at 7,500 feet and had the main w/in one size for the altitude, but decided to spend the money for the kit, which included a new needle jet. Clearly you are paying for the R&D not the hardware about ~$60 I think. The install of the kit made a difference I could feel, although I admit it may have been more like the car running better after being washed, but it certainly FELT like it was stonger. Dyno-Jet says a max of 3-4 Hp in the early mid-range RPM.

Additionally I installed an EPI clutch kit. There are lot of very steep hills around my part of the country and I wanted better back braking. There is also quite a bit of technical stuff and rock crawling here so I only installed the primary and secondary springs. I'm very happy with the set up, although the stock tires (Dunlops) are the weakest link.

The only other mod I might consider at the moment might be a new factory '06 pipe (assuming it would fit) which is a little larger, but at least for me, the dollar vs. gain is questionable. Otherwise it's very nice and seem to run better the more miles I get on it. I'm a happy camper.

And, OBTW, although I haven't done a scientific test yet, my 650 V2 clearly gets better fuel economy than my 500.

Gamer,

Thanks for the info regarding the 500. I keep telling myself the days of jumping 100'+ are over. I was looking for a machine that would haul my lazy butt through the woods, drag a deer or bear, and go for a calming trail ride. However, if I can tune the machine to its full potential then I'm all for it. Besides a little horsepower never hurt anyone....well there was this time I did jump my truck...almost.
