my new old 86 200sx has some ticking going on in the rockers or valves.. i went to adjust them .. and when i was trying to adjust them.. the T for top dead center on the fly wheel would roll right past on the power stroke every time it would just go about inch past.. and then the indicater on the camshaft would be right where it is saposed to be.. .. so i adjusted the lash going by the camshaft since i could not do it by the T on the flywheel.. i went to the left till it stoped then a half a graduation to the right.. when i got it back together there was more compression and it idled better and more smooth . but it still makes the tick [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img] anyone know why the T on the flywheel wouldent be lining up right ? or why it is still making a noise from the valve traine ? any ideas , suggestions or comments would be greatly apprechiated.. thanks for any help

The valves on that motor will always make a ticking noise unless brand new... Its when you don't have a tick you'll run into trouble since the clearence has to be overly tight to make the ticking stop.

 

mine has a bad case of piston slap when cold, clanks pretty good until its warmed up... no problems so far... ridden it hard threw highscool in the 90's and its still going strong!

i figure the chain has to have slipped though for the timming mark to keep rolling past the way it does.. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]
