Default Black Cover opposite Fuel neck on 800 Outlander

Does anyone know what the black cover on the opposite side of the gas filler is. It seems to be covering two holes and is not in line with anything.
I'm thinking of putting a radio microphone connection through it, but have no idea as to what it's actual purpose is

And the answer is... I was at Sams, and they had a 400 outlander two seater and... on the left hand side was the gas cap and a fuel guage. so they must use the same rear plastics... the right hand side where my fuel cap is, had a nice black cover just like on the left hand side of mine.
