200x Three Wheeler
#5
Well first off, the 86-87 had 2-3hp more then the 83-85. On 3wheeler.org, I read its about 18, then the 86-87 are 21 HP. This ofcourse was almost 20 years ago, so wear and tear on the internal parts of the engine would bring down HP.

There are no major horsepower gains of a 200X engine versus the 185/200 auto clutch series.
A piston, cam, and carburetor will only get you so far.
The difference in horse power between those engine doesn't even vary over ONE single horsepower. The difference that you FEEL bewteen the two is all relative to the weight issue and gearing.
Here are the numbers.......
The ATC185/185S engines are rated at 13.3HP
The ATC200/200S/200E/200ES/200M engines are rated at 13.8HP
The ATC200X engine is rated at 14.4hp [83-85 only]
The 200X makes roughly one more pony than the recreational engines, but if you think about it in simplest of terms....that equals to almost an 8% power increase for the 200X engine........which would be about the same as expected for any small engine by changing the cam, carburetor, and a slight boost in compression.
On another note, I am not sure where 3WW got their numbers for the 86-87 200X engines, but they are way off target. Those engines wren't making anything close to 18HP.
And far as as modifications go, the 83-85 series engines have more potential than the 86-87 series in terms of how much power can be gained from mods.
