Just got this info back from Big Gun on their exhaust system for the Raptor:

"Thanks for the email to Big Gun. As for question about the new Raptor. WE have in stock for the Raptor our Silencer $254.95. This silencer will add up 6-8 hp over stock. Also you will need to go up 2 sizes on the main jet for this. Our new header system will be available in two weeks. You can purchase the complete system for $410.95 or seperatelly the headers alone are $175.95. Call today for more info at (909)948- 7029.
P.S. WIth the headers added to the system you will gain another 4hp!
-- Mike @email: biggun@mgci.com "

Sounds cool, 12hp gain from a pipe! So who has any experience with BG, do they build good products? and how loud is a BG pipe on other ATV's?

The fun is only beginning

I just got the same email back from Mike at BigGun today as well. I have the complete header / silencer system on my EX. Made a huge difference in all ranges, most noticeable in the low. The pipe does come with a nice porcilin coating for heat dicipation and rust prevention. Seems to be holding up pretty good.

As far as noise, I hear all kinds of White Bros out there that I feel are louder. Pending on the core you specify, will determine noise level. I have the power core on my EX and am content with its noise.

Im definately happy with the system on my EX. In the next month or so will probably wind up getting the system for my Raptor as well...

ksauer...do you have torque numbers for the pipe? I assume they are as good as the hp numbers? So does it "feel" like a 30% increase in power over stock? 12 horsepower should "feel" like stepping from a 400ex to a stock Raptor, which is dramatic. Thanks for the reply in advance!

Gary - I dont have any numbers relating to torque. The hp gain on the EX with header pipe was to be 7-8hp. All I know is if it gives the Raptor the "pop" that it gave my EX, it will be so worth it. Im also running a K&N filter, lid off, and dyno jet kit on the EX.

Do drop one tooth on the counter sprocket (12) if you havnt already, that will help as well.

Got the Big Gun on my Raptor last night. Geez, this thing is loud! I may take it off and send it back. It gave me a headache just reving it in the driveway. Haven't had a chance to ride yet, but they claim 4 hp on 49 state models and 8 hp gain for California models. The headpipe adds another 4 hp, for a total of 12 on California emmissioned bikes. I'm not sure the noise vs. power is worth it.

Pairof98s,

Overall what do you think of the form and fit of the silencer? Does it look well built, and does it look good on the bike? They sent me a picture of it and it doesn’t look like it's polished aluminum, but rather come kind of paint, how does that look? As to loud, I had a White Bros on my Warrior that was loud, can you compare it to that?

Fit and finish is top notch. It uses a ceramic coating and looks like polished aluminum. Very sharp, it is just too loud for me.

I put the Complete System on my 400Ex and it made a heck of a difference.

Pair of 98's, which core did you get? I got the quiet core with spark arrestor, and it was not much louder than stock, but with the "race" core that comes standard, it was Insane loud.

As for me, I like the Big Gun pipe, except for the hole it burned in my intake plastic from being too close, but I'm leaving my Raptor Stock, it feels a heck of a lot more powerful than my Modified 400EX was, so I'll take it!

The FMF pipes are crazy loud, don't get the megaphone if you don't like LOUD!

Instead of sending back the Big Gun system, consider a quiet core insert. Probably still pump the HP up over stock and look much better. But then...I wonder if you will be back to the same HP and decibel level as the stock exhaust without the baffle? Good luck!

Why does the California Raptor emit more HP than the other states? Can this be changed?
