Anyone own a 2001 400 sportsman?

Still lookiing for that right atv. Just sold my 2000 300 4x4 cat today. I took a new 400 sportsman for a ride. I was impressed with the performance, turning radius, and ride quality. Can anyone give me more input on 400 sportsman.

I think it's great the 425 motor is now in the small Sportsman. The 425 and 500 and H.O. are all basically the same motor. So this is great for all of us. But why not get a 2000 SP for probably about the same money? They are going for $6100 out here, and I just sold my 2000 SP to a friend for $5800. There's bargains out there, and the new 425 SP has got all the weight-
but not all the power.

I agree with Fourlix Maybe you could get a leftover 500 for about the same money as a new 400. Bigger engine & no more weight. However, the steering on the 01 will be noticeably lighter than the 00, and has upgraded (more durable) components so that has to come into consideration, too. Mainly it is the bottom steering post bushing, which only costs $35 or so for a 'forever' replacement, but it's a pain to get at.

If your buying give Elder Enterprises a call for a price (519-263-6142). They are up in Hensall, near Exeter. I've found their prices are very good. Even if you want to buy from your local dealer, having another price makes a great bargaining tool!

The SP 400 is a 425 so it it will have close to the same power as a non-H.O SP.I dont know how it is in Forest but here in the Sault the left over 2000 SP are going for $9300 out the door and all of them have a winch included. There was also a 2001 400SP and it was only $300 less and with no winch included.
