Default Time for rims..need opinions

I am now looking for rims...riding with 2 left rims bent is getting annoying and bomb wants 184 a piece (canadian) for stock baja x rims. I see the itp baja reinforced rims that look very nice but then seen the thickness of the rims was very thin compared to the .190 douglas rims without reinforcement rings...the douglas rims are wayy cheaper....but i do like the idea of the reinforcement rings and the looks of the itp's. Whats your opinions on aftermarket rims for the ds650 (that are very strong)...Douglas,ITP, reinforcement rings vs none reinforced.....

I have brand new douglas .190 whith holeshots and my opinion about the rims is this, they suck. 1 ride and already have a dent on the inside of 1 of the front rims from a rock. I think if you want super rims then you would prob have to go with beadlocks. You can get the stock baja rims for about 120-130 if you look around. Check out parkeryamaha.com they have pretty good prices, or better yet keep your eye on ebay because every once in awhile there is a baja set on there. I just bought a set off a guy with tires and like brand new cond for $300.00 this guy is also a forum member. So look through the threads and ebay and see what you can come up with. My douglas wheels and holeshot tires came from inlandatv from out in california and paid $430.00 shipped to my door, these guys are also on ebay, so if your interested give them a call, by the way you can get just about any tire that you want but price will vary. Sometimes it takes a little while to get your stuff from them so be patient if ordering from them. Later, RUSS

DuneRader650,

If you can purchase off e-bay that's how I would go for the stockers.
There's a guy unloading a whole DS parted out.
I have the stock 04's with the reinforced rings and have beat on them pretty good I think they hold up pretty well.
Just wish the inside had a ring to ?
For dunes that's a different story ... Douglas all the way... I think I have the thicker .90's and they have held up pretty well....

Well i really do not want the stock rims again....they bend to **** on me. I ride very fast and hard ,weigh 216 pounds and they just dont hold up to well. I was thinking the itp baja's on the rear with reinforced inside and out with some itp c series up front? Somone must have experience with these rims and there must be some strong rims out there?? My riding is lots and lots of roads hitting ruts at high speeds/rocks, trail riding bouncing over trees across the trails at very fast speeds and just ruff riding. I dont want to spend insanely big money on these rims but want something stronger than the stockers....my outsides on the stockers are fine but the insides have gone to hell for bending.

You could probably buy standard douglas rims and have someone cut you out some rings and have them tig welded in. I have thought about that myself, but I have access to have the parts cut out on a plasma and we have a tig welder in our maint shop that I could weld them in with. I think I should have done that on my douglas .190 before installing on quad. The baja type wheels are quite a bit heavier though. I think this winter while my baja is hibernating I will have the tires knocked off and try this before I use them and ruin them. LOL'S I know it would take a really good wheel to hold up to the punishment that a ds can give it with the right rider.

I don't know about Bomb, but as far as Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki the stock rims are a lot more rugged than your average aftermarket rim. Unless you go with a beadlock or rings, but then they'll cost a lot more. People always buy tire/rim packages so you should be able to find some stock ones pretty cheap. Then, if you feel the need, you could have them tig welded. I thought about this for my z. I wanted to see if somebody could cut rings on a laser or water jet, and instead of the standard holes I want them to cut Sukuki ltz 400 around rings.

Man it sound like you need some bead locks. If you bent up the reinforced baja rims the only place to go is dual reinforced(inside and out) beadlocks. I would think about higher slightly tire pressure also. After one of my few trail/rock rides I raised the pressure to like 10psi. It is a much rougher ride but the rims held up better. With the higher pressure I didn't worry at all about hitting huge rocks at speed. The over-inflated tires sucked up at lot of the impact, and with little damage to the wheel.

I'd still check ebay. I believe I saw some of those carbon fiber beadlocks on there. They're guaranteed for life too. Very pricey though, but you may be able to get them for the same or less than you'd normally pay for regular beadlocks and they're stronger and lighter.
