My Phoenix was drug out of the woods by a 300 Honda .

My Phoenix went insane over the weekend . It blew a fuse like it does once in a while . Then after the Aluminum foil fix the regulator rectifier started rolling smoke . The ignition then quit sparking with out the battery hooked up and we had to get a honda for the rescue .
I guess I need to figure out the problem , I have heard of all kinds of electronic weirdness , I guess I get to try and figure it out .
The poor quad has about 5 tanks of gas through it .
On a lighter note my 1977 Yamaha DT400 ran flawlessly and we had a great time camping out in the middle of nowhere .

After it started rolling smoke, did it get really hungry?
I know I'm probably pointing out the obvious here but, there's a good chance that it's the part that's smoking causing your trouble. How often did you blow fuses? I know I've heard of problems with regulators before that only occur when they heat up.
So maybe you didn't screw yourself over with the tinfoil, just pointed out the problem. If it was bad before, you had to replace it anyway , right?

Ouch!........It sounds like you did a lot more damage when you put aluminum around the fuse. Hope you didn't fry no expensive electrical components.........
Good luck with it, Rick

Bummer, I had a similar issue on a maxfine 100. I think the two bikes are both made in china. Well anyhow, I found that the ground wires where they all were soldered together, weren't making connection because the insulation wasn't stripped correctly. I stripped the wires and wire nutted them together and all is good. I'd look at the ground, especially if you have other electrical issues. If it can't find ground through it's normal path it'll find it where ever it can.
