Default 250 Trail Boss

I am looking at a 1993 Trail Boss and was wondering if it was worth the price of $600.00. It ran but needs a choke cable. The chain and sproket set need to be replaced. The brake rotors look like they need to be replaced also but not sure about pads. I can do most work on these kind of machines myself so I should be able to save some money that way. Also want to know what else I should look at before buying. What kind of problems they are known for etc.
Thanks for any help.

Does it run? If so, Then sure. I have two 93's and love them both, the kids can ride them. They are only worth somewhere around a $1,000 in good working order. Go to ebay and look for the parts you need.
Good luck,
Doc

The 250 two strokers are known for the engine mounting bracket at the left rear to crack and break from all the vibration the engine produces. It is an easy fix though even if you don't have another bracket available. Just turn the broken one over and upside down and re-use it. These brackets come with an extra hole drilled that isn't used for anything on this particular model. All in all it's one of the best atv's I've ever been around for reliability. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Hope that helped. Ride on man!

Well, I went out and bought it today. I got it for $500.00 and I think it should be worth it. Started tearing it down and found that the swing arm bearing are bad but I don't think that will be a hard fix. I have not gotten down to the engine but I am pretty sure that at least one of the mount is broken. The engine is sitting a little low and the clutch was rubbing on the inside of the cover.. I'll keep you posted on my progress.
Thanks for the help

If nothing else, you got something to tinker with. Always a good exucse to buy a new tool (but honey, I need this tool to fix it).

Sounds like you got a deal. I wouldv'e bought it. Ya know the best thing I like about the tall and wide stance of these rigs is their balance. If you come upon a downed tree or rock in the trail all you have to do is cut the bars hard, lean a little and bump the throttle.
You'll think you're a stunt man running on one front and one rear tire. Ride on man.

Sounds good. They are great and basic machines that keep on going.

Just to give you guys an update. I tore down the Trail Boss and replaced the swing arm bearings, the motor mounts , the choke cable, a chain and sproket set and the rear brakes. It all went together pretty easy and after the holiday I'll be ready to try and start it up I just need all the fluids and the Dealer in closed tommorow. I am going to post another thread on this next subject but does anyone know the best way to adjust the fuel enhancer in the carb hooked to the choke cable? Any help would be great.
