How reliable is a Banshee?
#1
Sorry for keep posting these threads about which one should i get. I have Narrowed it down to 2 quads the Raptor 700 and the Banshee. I know the Raptor will be at least fairly reliable. I was wanting to know how reliable a banshee is Stock and with pipes, carbs, filters, and possible a small bore kit (between 350-409) Thanks for your time Mace

As long as you maintain it well. Don't just thrash and park it. Keep track of hours and do the topend when it needs it and you will have no problems. If you are mechanically inclined then you can do most everything on a 2 stroke yourself.

When jetted properly and maintained well, the Banshee is just as reliable as anything else. Also keep in mind you can do a top end on a Banshee for the same price (or less) than a Raptor, YFZ450, etc.

Out of curiosity how much does it cost on average to have a shop do the top end on a banshee?

Depending on what pistons you use, you can do an entire top end (minus machine work) for $150 or so. You would spend that alone on 1 piston for a modern 4-poke. Also, you don't have to worry about grinding valves, cam timing, etc.

My cousin and his friend both have 2001 banshees. Both were purchased in 2003, both were still on the factory rings and pistons. Both were piped and otherwise basically stock.
Both riders run wide open and spend lots of time drag racing, hill climbing and even running the ice. My cousin's bike is still on these same pistons and rings. While his friend has blown his up twice, of his own doing. So a lot of it has to do with the rider and how far they can push their bike without nudging it over the edge.
