i got mine about a year and a half ago it came in parts. after i put it together i was very happy with it they have lots of power and can be modified. they are around 48" wide in the rear. making it a little more stable than a raptor but with wider comes trail restrictions
i love my ds

I have an 05 DS650X and could not be happier with this bike. It is big sturdy and just about bullet proof. There are great mods out there for them if you don't think it is fast enough to start out. Stock it is a heck of a bike and will run just about anywhere you want it to....Some of us are just power hungry.
They do jump really well, and are just a great all round bike. I would highly recommend. Just my opinion

Also, probobly the biggest perk for these great rides you have already found. The amount of knowledge and desire to help from this group is awesome.

i have an 04 X with some basic mods...this thing is sick

the power is insane, comfort is beyond description..i can ride for days without any comfort issues

if i had to say 1 bad thing and only if i really-really had to it would be the weight of the bike compared to others...personally i like the weight keeps the wheels on the ground, less spin when racing.shooting hills front stays planted..

its the cadillac of atv's.. power and comfort and just looks dam scary, i have an 05 escalade so i know

please do yourself a favor and get it...if you get in a jam the forum is always there to help

Fast250x, you could write a book about those questions. Here are some of my thoughts as I live and ride in Georgia. Most trails around here are woods with some wide open areas. Mud, mud, and more mud also. I owned a 400ex and found that it was excellent for the woods, just so so for the mud, and wide open areas just a tad slow. Next came the DS. Fast and faster. Comfort for those all day rides, lots of suspension travel to soak up the bumps. Wide open areas, it rules. Now for a little reality check. Watch out for the Ga. mud. A little is ok but get in the deep stuff and you will pay he++ to get her out if you get stuck. She is heavy and has no reverse. In the woods you will have plenty of speed to burn and with a little practice you can slide her around corners with just a blurb of the throttle, but watch out for those trees!!! The DS is wide and some of the trails we ride you will get hung up if you are not carefull. Jumping, lets just say that she is a little nose heavy but makes up for some of that with a whole lot of suspension travel. Best part of the DS for me has been all the help you will get from this forum. They will tell you of all the tricks to make one great ATV even better. Besides, not a lot of these puppies around which adds to the cool factor. Ps, no they are not top heavy. They are very stable.

My only complaints, which have been touched on already.

!. A little on the heavy side
2. No reverse
3. A bit tight on some trails in the deep woods.

A few FYI's.....Keep your battery fresh, ad a secondary fuel filter and silicone in your oil sending plug, if it gets wet it goes out and your oil light comes on.

On the plus side.

1. Fast as hell.
2. Very stable.
3. Very comfortable
4. Did I mention it's fast??
5. Bulletproof, these things can take some abuse and still keep ticking.

Will you be dissapointed- heck no. Just wack the throttle for a few seconds and you will see why the ds rules. Like everyone says, the ride is very nice. It is the caddy of atv's. Only downfall, when your in the wooded trails that are tight- watch out and be carefull. Don't let that scare ya though because a little time and you will be a ok. But those smaller quads will out manouver ya pretty easily. I ride my pred 500 in the woods and my ds650 everywhere else, I ride the pred in the woods because it is a little lighter but still a big quad.

The oil sending unit is right below the carb alittle silicone around the wire to keep water from shorting it out. This will cause your oil light to come on....happened to me last year in a rain storm.

Last weekend my wife jumped on mine and took it out in the dunes she has a ex400... she weighs maybe 100lbs....she came back with a big smile and told me to say goodbye to my quad......looks like I am looking for another one jeez
