Scrambler Belt Wet, can it be sealed better?
#1
Good morning, I have an 05 scrambler, i have noticed a few times that when I go though big puddles..But not necessaily deep water..I'd say long puddles maybe 12 " deep. My belt gets wet and slips. yesterday to took like 10 minutes before it started to grab again? Keep in mind--I'm no mechanic. Is there any procedure or Product I can have my dealer add on to my machine to prevent this from happening? Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like a bad seal on your clutch cover because it should not leak it should be water tight.
take the cover off and inspect the gasket . And check the inner seal where the inner half hooks to the engine.
In my trials what I have found that works the best for a gasket between the two halfs is 1/4 inch wide foam gasket tape with the peel off white backing and stick it in the groove. that is what I found works best for me rather than the gasket you get from the dealer not saying it would be better for others.
also go to the dealer and buy some extra cover clips and any where between the screws where it does not look tight put a clip.
I can park my atv in water over the cover and leave it there for 30min and it won't leak.

the most common way for water to get into the housing is thru the snorkel under the front left fender,,,or at the rubber boot seal that seals the connection between the snorkel and the housing
the lower cover should obviously be sealed as well,,,especially on a new machine
going thru puddles at a high rate of speed will splash water into the opening on the snorkel
its a basic scrambler flaw
did you dry the belt yet?

i have a 04 atp 330 i looked at the picture of you clutch cover and compared it to mine. go figure it is the same part.. mine did the same thing until i modified it. it is a combo of two things, first you need to tighten up the bolts on your clutch cover. not alot just a little bit. next you need your imagination if you take the plastic of your machine on the left side to expose your clutch snorkle. when i first did mine i thought that was the air INTAKE for the clutch, it isnt it is the outtake vent. this is what i did it may need to be different on a scrammy. i used a 2.5 inch flexible hose that i got at lowes home improvement it is kind of yellow in color. if you unbolt and remove your snorkle from the rubber connecter on the top of your clutch cover. now all you have to do is attach the end of the new hose to the rubber gasket and run the hose any which way that you can so that it is higher than the original one. it does not matter if it goes to the front or rear as long as the end is higher than the old one. once i figured out were mine was going to go i used heavy duty zip ties to secure it. on mine i had to cut a hoe in my side plastic but you may not?i could not go through water more than 12 inches deep at any speed. now i can go through water up to my seat with no problems... good luck

SORRY FOR THE DELAY IN THE RESPONSE. NO THERE IS NO OVER HEATING OR ANY PROBLEM THAT I HAVE NOTICED. THE ONE BENIFIT IS THAT WHERE I PUT THE PIPE, IT ACTS AS A LITTLE HEATER DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. I CAN NOW GO THROUGH WATER UP TO MY KNEES (WHILE SITTING ON MY MACHINE) THAT IS PRETTY DEEP. JUST REMEMBER DONT GET OVERZELIS, THE INTAKE PORT IS DIRECTLY BY YOUR RIGHT KNEE........
HOPE THAT HELPS

sounds like it didnt get too wet....or you would be going nowhere at all
if its driving,,,then it is probably dry
i have always pulled the cover after getting wet.......there is usually a lot of dust/water in there that hurt the performance
i clean the clutch sheeves and clean the rest of the surfaces as well as inspect the belt for any damage (piece of mind)
did you pull the drain on the bottom of the cover?
