12 Hrs of America stock quad shootout! Predator,YFZ and 450R
#1
During the 12 hr race ATV Scene was doing there own stock quad durability test. They ran 3 bone stock quads for 12hrs. They were a YFZ450, 450R and a standard Pred. The Pred did 43 laps and the 450R did 37 laps with the YFZ somewhere in between. This is what was posted.

Actually it was Polaris, Yamaha then Honda. The shootout race ended at 8 pm since we didn't take the 2 hour break. After 8pm Pat Brown wanted to run a few more laps on the Yamaha making it look like the Yamaha had more laps. But those results are not what the shootout was about, the winner will be determined by the riders feedback of each quad in a couple days posted on atvscene.

I also like those results, but would be curious to see how they did that and how much time a rider got in the saddle for each bike. Personally, I can't even imagine 2-3 straight hours on that YFZ. Hurts my azz thinking about it...Honda probably did pretty good in the comfort department along with the Preddy.
Of course, you never can tell on these things what may impress or depress people.
I seem to recall reading about an endurance test in one of the rags also. I can't for the life of me remember which one though. Preddy did fairly well on that one too...that I do remember.

The winner of the test is not neccessarily who finished the most laps. All of the riders who tested these stock quads (stock except for Razr2's on all) will be writing up their impressions of the machines and comparisons.
The writeups will be on www.ATVSCENE.COM Should be there this week sometime.
It does look like the Predator fared pretty good eh?
The lap times indicate that the YFZ was the fastest and the Polaris and Honda were about equal. They all had a round robin set of riders and many were Pros on the GNC and GNCC circuits. Should be fun to read about them. Amazing they all lasted 12 hours of racing strait through. No problems with the Predator that I read.
Fast Laps
2006 Yamaha YFZ450: 12:34.054
2006 Polaris Predator: 12:49.446
2006 Honda TRX450R: 12:48.052

12 Hour Torture Test
Anyway, I think it's a must read for anyone looking to buy and I'm sure this one will be just as informative.

This was posted on quadzone.com by Jeff Stoess, GNCC Pro Rider. He also said that there were 9 riders who all took turns on all three quads.
The shootout winners have not been added up yet. The winner was not determined by who came in first in the race, it will be decided on the evaluations of the test riders. Everytime a rider got off one of the machines, they would sit down and fill out an evaluation sheet. Those scores will be averaged to determine a winner.
However, the machine that actually came in first at the end of the 12 hours received 1 bonus point.
The Polaris came in 1st one half a lap in front of the Yamaha. The Honda had some down time and was several laps down.
The score sheet shows the Yamaha had more laps but that is only because after the 12 hour mark, Pat Brown wanted to run some more laps on the Yamaha and we forgot to take the transponder off making it look like the Yamaha had more laps in.
All 3 quads where brought too the shootout by the manufactures. Yamaha and Polaris both had semi trucks and mechanics there in case they needed to make any repairs during the shootout. Honda only brought the quad but could not send any represenitives. All 3 quads went back to the manufactures on saturday night when the race was over. ATVScene did not purchase any or given any of the quads. The shootout was in no way fixed!
The results and artical will be posted of the shootout on ATVScene by the end of the week.
