Default 250 got wet, now it wont start

Hi,
I own a 1986 honda trx quad, and the other day i accidentally left it in the rain. I went to move it and it cranked fine, but after about a minute of running it choked off and died. Now it wont start at all. I havn't run through everything yet, but i was just wondering if maybe this was a common problem with these four-wheelers? Any comments will be much appreciated!!

David

No , its not common.
Check for gas, maybe the valve was left off, or youre out of gas.
Then check for spark.

Sounds like water could have gotten in the gas. You burned what was already in the float bowl (good gas), and then got to the water and it died. It could be any number of things, but from the info you provided, this sounds like a logical possibility.

Ok, obviously water had entered the gas somewhere; I drained the tank and lines, put new gas in the tank and cranked it right up. Any ideas on how i can prevent this from happening again (other than keeping it out of the rain)? Thanks for the comments,

David

Cool. Looks like my logic was correct.

You may have even put it in there yourself. Looks closely at the sourse of the fuel you put it there. Did you leave a gas can out in the rain, and then put water in the ATV? I've done that with lawn equipement.

Next, look at the gas cap vent and seal. Being a 20 year old ATV, I would suspect that could be a good possibilty.
