Honda Foreman 500 es 4x4 questions.
#1
I bought my honda 2 weekends ago and am absolutely loving it but i have some questions. I wanted to get some mud tires for it and was wondering which ones are the best and where to get them. I also wanted to know if they sell lockers for 4 wheelers for the front end and if they do where to get them. Another thing I wanted to know is how deep a water I can go through without hurting it and where can I get a snorkel kit. Also on the tires I want the biggest I can get but I want to stay at stock height and don't want the tires to rub. Also I heard a rumor that these have a speed limiter and wanted to know if that was true and if so how do i get rid of it. Thanks a lot for the help i really appreciate it.

i've had mine since august and i absolutely love it, top speed on mine is around 57 on a flat road with stock tires, the biggest tires i would go is for stock are 26x9x12 for the fronts and 26x12x12 for the rear. i really like the 589's due to the overall performance, as for the water, i wouldn't go in anything over the gas tank

If you use 589's I'd go with the 9 all the way around. It does surprisingly well in the mud, those 589's are way wider than you think. The 9's are actually wider than any 10's out there. I on the other hand use the Mudlites and love them so far. They carve very well through the trails and do well in the mud.

I don't believe the Foreman has a rev limiter, I've had the throttle on mine pinned to the bars for almost a
1/4 mile and it never cut out, etc. if there is one ,it must be through the electronic ignition, but I highly
doubt they put 1 on,otherwise you would be limited on r.p.m, etc. You should be able to get 55-60+ on your
top end, I hope this helps you out...

When you guys say no water above the tank you mean the bottom of it right the most i went through was just up to my feet. My foreman will go between 54-59 so I guess they don't have a limiter. Thanks a lot for all the info.

i dont know how the 500 is, but my 350 has a rev limiter. In neutral if i rev it up, it will rev to a certain point and then start fluttering. This is the same point at which my top speed in 5th gear is at. It's not really a speed limiter, it's a rev limiter, but since the engine cant go any faster and you are in top gear, it essentially stops you from going any faster since you cant go faster without the engine revving more. You'll notice the limiter in all the other gears too.

500 should handle 27's with no trouble. Depending where you ride, I use 27x12x12 rear and 27x9x12 front. Large rear tires help in the sticky stuff, lots of flotation for soft marshland.
Highlifter.com sells lockers for the front diff. First is a spool, makes steering harder, but works great (I have one). They also sell a detroit locker that's more expensive but it unlocks when no torque is applied to it, meaning that when your in 2wd, steering is unaffected.
