TheOz ....Procomm CDI status
#1
Hey TheOz,
Just curious if you got anywhere with Jennifer at Procomm Re: CDI software updates ?
As I recently went to Glamis with the Stock CDI and did not one single problem.
I did miss the little extra snappyness and high end RPM's the CDI provides though.
Does anyone know if Procomm an advertiser on this vary forum ever fixed there CDI box... or do I just have to toss this in the round file and forget about it till I can afford the RW CDI ?
Just curious ....

Jennifer was good enough to give me a refund due to the issues I reported with the Procom unit for the DS650. She stated their engineers would soon be working on an updated box for the DS650. I asked her to contact me when an updated CDI was available. I haven't heard from her.
I've been running the stock CDI since taking the Procom off and haven't had one LOUD clank where the starter meets the flywheel. In the spring I may purchase a Vortex unit because I also miss the extra umph the aftermarket CDI gave. It appeared I had a little extra power down low. I suppose I really wouldn't know unless I had the DS hooked to a dyno with both hardware applications. I wouldn't recommend the Procom CDI for the DS until an updated and proven model is available.

Hey Oz
It's interesting as I just shot off an e-mail to Jennifer and I guess they have some new ones and she wants me to go ahead and send her my old one for replacement ?
I think I will give them one last shot....
To kind of test and see what is up.
But any kind of Hiccup at all and off it goes and you know I have to keep the stocker one with me at all times.
If it fails I will try to get a refund and put it toward's the RW CDI. This way the cost is not such a big deal.
Just wish BRP would just make a decent one and be done with the whole thing.
I wonder if running Super Unleaded fuel would help prevent any kind of detoniation that may be happening due to the aggressive timeing advancement at startup and low RPM.
O well I will see what goes and let you know if your still interested at all.

ILivSD: Of course we would like to know if there's any kickback if the DS is at low RPM or stalls. I had the kickback issue (loud CLANKING sound) when the machine was cold and would stall out. Looking forward to knowing if they updated their software.

Ya Eaglecollector I know... I know
I figure if I can get Procom to send me out a re-mapped unit that "works" I am basically happy with there product.
I am already out the cost of the CDI anyway.
Yes, I am risking damage to the bike but like I indicated at the first sign of weird starting or poor idle issues I am riping it out. Once last final chance. I now know what the stock CDI performs like so I have some thing to compair it to.
