Hello everyone. My 2 year old snagged the only key to my 2001 400 sportsman and lost it. Will I have to get a new ignition or is there another option? Thanks for any help

 

take it to your dealer and get a new ignition or start crossing wires [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img]

easy fix ebay it its like 65-85 dollars through your dealer its like 10.00 on ebay

 

I was going to call my dealer tomorrow with my serial # and see if they can make me a key. Is this wishful thinking????

 

You can call the dealer with a serial number and he can get a key, at least that's what my brother in law did when he lost his key for his 04.5 sp600.

 

Kids, ya gotta love 'em. Your key will turn up approximately 1 hour after you get a new one. 2 years old and already knows the "mess with Daddy" routine. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img]

 

Not sure if the 2001 400 is like my 1996 400 Xplorer, but I lost the key on a camping trip and the spare was back at home.

I got out my wiring diagram and figured out how to hot wire it. For my machine, 1 jumper and pulling 2 other wires off and taping them up separate to insure nothing got shorted out. No key needed, turned off the ATV via start/stop switch on the handlebar.


My switch I left alone and went after the wires in the wiring area under the front rack.

 

You could always pick the ignition and hope you find the key. We did that on my son's Pred 90. Found the key 10 minutes after we picked it. It was in his riding boot.

 

Were just assuming this guy with only 2 post didn't steal this quad. But good advise on how to hot wire it.
