I bought a 95 300 TRX. It was a one owner machine(wifes). He had a 300 4x4. He said it probably didn't have more than 100 miles on it total. looks to be in good shape. He said he had it serviced twice a year at the dealer where he bought it. The oil looked good and clean.
It rides real good so far.
I'll be using it for the deer lease and to work around the house. No trail riding.

QUESTIONS...
1. what kind of oil should I put in it?
2. what about the rear end oil?? what kind & should I change it.
3. What other things should I do ?

Any other advice appreciated.

Thanx,

David

I would recommend that you obtain a shop manual for your quad. It would give you all that info plus every thing else you may want to know in the future. Your Honda dealer can order a Honda manual for you or you can get a Clymer's manual online.

You can also order the official shop manual online or by 800# from www.helminc.com

I would have to say right after you order the manual, get a helmet, gloves, boots and goggles. Then ride and enjoy it, we have 2 300's both '88 models, 1 4x4, 1 2x4, they have been and still are trouble free, with oil changes every fifty hours, air cleaners when they need it. Live a little, take a day off from the deer lease and hit the trail. Most of all enjoy it!!!!!
I use Pennzoil in mine, check the owners manual it has a chart as to viscosity for the ambient temperature, I run 10w40 in mine.
The Honda # for the '95 TRX 300 Manual is 61HM400, also there a IPC # on the back of it, IPC,(in a circle VF)A30009407S. Hope this helps you.

Thanx folks,
Thanx for the info, I'll get one pronto. Les, thanx for the number for my quad. I'm gonna get a trailer to haul it with and for the 300 to pull. I'm thinking bout a 5x8 trailer.

Thanx again,

David

Two years ago I got a nice deal on a 92 TRX 300. The owner had taken good care of it with one exception that often goes undetected by ATV owners. The rear hubs were worn loose and shot because he never thought to check to make sure the hub nuts were well torqued. The axles splines were damaged as well but not to the point where I saw it necessary to replace them. I simply replaced the hubs and torqued the nuts with an impact wrench.

This problem is so common that you can often find ATV's where the owner has welded the hubs to the axles to remedy the problem. As the old saying goes, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

I use Valvoline in both my cars and ATVs (have two of each) and feel that nothing performs better. I also prefer the 10W-30 blend over 10W-40 because it contains more lubricating oil and less viscosity-changing additiives. I also use the Valvoline brand of SAE90 gear oil. In my opinion synthetics are great for those who forget to change the oil or those who drive in severe (20 or below) cold.
