I have a 04' rubi and planned on putting 27" outlaw mst tires on it, however when I went to my local shop and told them my wishes the tried to convince me to stay with the stock size (25") tire. He said that they look great but rob alot of power and he thought even the 26" would be to much. So those of you out there that have made these mods, do you really notice a hugh power loss? even with 26is?
Please tell me straight.

Your not going to notice a great loss of power with 27's on the Rubicon, I have them on my forman 450 and it still runs perectly fine!!!!

You may need the floor board bracket kit from highlifter to prevent rubbing of the support for the floor board. No biggie

 

You will loose power due to multiple reasons... First, your gear ratio will change, it will be higher. Second all the added weight. This doesn't matter if you don't mind the loss. I would find someone local with that setup and test ride theirs. If it feels ok then do it. If you don't like the power loss then go with a smaller size.

On a side note, you could always do some mods to your bike to offset the tire size... More power is never bad!

 

yes, more mods like the Highlifter clutch kit (raises the engagement RPM)

yes, there is a noticeable power loss to even the 26" mud tires like the 589s. You can't tell me there won't be a loss adding close to 40lbs of tire (the weight does more than the 1" diameter change)

we've lined machines up with different tires - stock and 26 inch radials vs 26 inch 589s.

 

I put 26" tires on my Suzuki Vinson 500 and didn't notice any loss of power at all.

 

Lets put it this way I have ridden for years a 300 honda 4x4 with 27x10x11 vampires on it and all i did was put a 88' model cam in a 94' model bike and a lift kit. Even with a little 300 i could still pull everything i wanted and still run with a stock 450 foreman. But I would think twice about putting outlaws on any bike with a whole lot of power. Outlaws provide so much grip i have had friends that have snapped cv axles and blown up front chuncks.

 

i just got 26's for mine and wouldn't go above 27 just for center of gravity reasons but the rubi has plenty of power to handle the tires and the computer on it should give you the poweryou need to make it so you feel reletivly no power loss.
