today i was in some real nasty soup so when i got home i was washing the heck out of my quad and noticed that the pull start rope was not seated so i pulled the rope out to check and it was covered with muddy water so i pulled the drain plug (what a bumd a$$ place to put the plug i had to take apart the whole side of the quad) and a bunch of muddy water spewed out so i guess it was worth the trouble but i was woundering if i shoud spray like some wd-40 in there to help keep the fly wheel from rusting to hell,
any suggestions on what to do next??
no one was looking with the old title so i changed it...

Hey Jayblazer. I have never experienced your problem.. But, I would start it up with the pull start off and get it warmed up to dry the water out. Let it set till it cools. Then I would spray WD-40 all over the pull start and put it back together.
I hope this helps you

i'd check to see if anything else got water in it... i dont know how your quads guts are but my 400 has the starter open to the flywheel.... if there is any significant water in there it might (and did in my case) get into your starter... see if there is a drain on your starter and make sure its clean... i had to replace mine after it got water in it.

NO NO NO NO !!!!!!!
Do not start it with cover off . Many Polaris engines have the bendix supported by the starter cover and the center case , you could very easily do hundereds of dollars damage . Check this over thoroughly before proceeding .

thanks guys i took the bottom drain out and opened the top plug and drained it all then i let it run with those bolts off it get it all hot and then i closed the bottom bolt sprayed in a bunch of wd-40 let it run
drained it and put it all back together. oh yeah i had the pull start rope pulled out and held out with vise grips the whole time so it could dry and i dident get any wd-40 on it..
what do you guys think???

Hey Jayblazer.. I assume you were talking about the sheet metal cover that holds the rope and pulley, not the flywheel cover that holds the recoil spring mechanism and starter. But I would agree, if you remove the front support for the starter bendix, you should not use the starter.

LOL Rick.. No offense taken!! Just trying to clear up my post. It never hurts to have more than one set of eyeballs on a problem.
