Default Brute Force 650 starting problems - Please Help !!

Hey Guys, My Brute Force is an 06 model I have had it about 2 months now. It used to start up fine never had to use the choke. Now the weather has changed little colder, last couple of time I went to start the BF650 I had to use the choke and I would let it idle a few minutes then turn choke off and let it idle couple more minutes then the bike would cut off and then I cant get it to start for nothing it just keep turning over and wont start. I'm losing my patience with this. any ideas before I take it back to the dealership ? thanks for any suggestions or input

Just a thought but look under the seat there is a valve that turns the gas to either (PRI) PRIME or (ON) , they made this mistake with mine when they assembled it, and left it on prime, hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion it was not the prime or on switch. I ended up taking the quad back to the dealership they were perplexed why it would'nt start. The dealership says the Kawasaki quad are the least troublesome bike they sell. I appreiciate you you responding to this. This forum used to be helpful but now it seems that people are more interested in bragging and dissing everybody's quads it seems no one wants to help anymore. I have been told go leave this forum and go to nyroc forums the people seem to be helpful there. thats my 2 cents

Well, I sent the BF650 to the dealership and they called me the next day and told me they found out what was wrong with it. Service manager said that there is a plastic piece in the petcock valve between tank and carb was not working right. The BF650 was not getting any gas. Bad news was that he said it would take 1 week or more to get the part in. then he said it would take 30 minutes put in and have Quad ready. Have been waiting a week now he says it will be another 4 days due to holidays. I guess I will sit here and wait for the call to pick it up.

OldGrump,

The Brute 650's are solid quads and once it's fixed everything should be all good. Hopefully they git r done quick. In the cold you will find yourself using the choke more to get her going. The v twins take a bit to get warm (at least mine does).

Good luck. HIT IT HARD!

Glad to hear that your problem was not that big of a deal. Hope you get your quad back soon my Brute seems to fire up really easy no matter what the temp. All I generally have to do is turn the key listen for the pump to stop choke it all the hit the green button fires right up I put my thumb over on the throttle and gentle give it just a little gas as I take the choke all the way off then let off the gas and let it set for about 5 minutes....I generally only use the choke just for the intial start then cut it off.

By the way Old Grump what trails have you ridden on in VA? We've been to Tasker's Gap, Rocky Run, and South Pedlar. We have not been to Patterson Mtn. yet we are planning a day trip up there probably around Christmas.

Hey Teamgrnmojave269,
I have been to the South Pedlar trails near Glasgow, Va. I've been there several times but when I went they had half of the trails closed off. But I enjoyed it. Jumped the BF650 couple a times, surprised me, it almost seems that it jumps better than my Z-400. By the way where are the other tails you mentioned. If you could let me know of a nearby town or city hopefully I should find it. The only thing I disliked about the South Pedlar trails were alot of motorcycles going extremely fast and they almost hit a few quads head on and in my opinion had a lack of respect towards quads.

We were up there the day before Thanksgiving and talked to one of the guys up there that was hunting...he told us that he lives nearby and comes up to South Pedlar pretty offten he said that he's friends with the guy that flies the Medivac Helicopter for the Lynchburg Hospital and pilot told him that he makes about 8 or 9 trips picking riders up a year and since that trail system has opened there have been 2 fatalities....for that very reason you mentioned! On a happier note lol the other two trails I was telling you about: The first and the biggest is Tasker's Gap OHV (do a search on google for it) is located near Edinburg, VA directions to that trail is pretty easy just take I-81N to exit 279 Edinburg make a right at the stop sign cross railroad tracks, at the next stop sign you should be in a small town (edinburg) turn left that's RT. 11 stay on that road for about 1 miles then you want to turn right onto RT 675 (right beside a Jeep Dealership. Just follow that road probably for about 5 or 6 miles and the trail head parking lot will be on your right. The other trail system has a bunch of Mud holes in it and some pretty good size jumps but is only about 10 or 11 miles all together it just makes 1 big loop but it's still a lot of fun. It's called Rocky Run OHV and is located about 15 miles past Harrisonburg (again you can do a search on google for it).

Oh yeah the Brutes 650's do jump very well...I have Holeshot ATR's on mine and OMG it slides so well...with those tires it handles as well if not better than most sport quads!! Ride On!!
